How much bedding do you use in a month?

I use hunters now £9.20 from local supplier. BSL where are you based to get them for £8.60? I use 1 to 2 a week depending so spend anything from £55 - £65 a month.

I started on shavings, started with eight bales, half bed, pretty deep, then used two bales a week at £7.50 a bag which works out at about £60 a month.
Skipped out every day and full muck out once a week, took me ages as i like to get every bit out!

Switched to wood pellets to try and save cost and time, started with 8 15kg bales, half bed, quite deep but soon bedded down. ended up putting in a bag every three days at £4.50 a bale, which is about £45 a month.
Easy to muck out but had to take quite a bit more than i wanted out per day because of his mashing it up into a lovely mess. Gave up on them as it was so heavy to lift when digging out the wet, it went dark very quickly and just looked flat, i like my beds clean and big.

Im now on straw, i buy the heston bales of straw, three quarter bed compacted down to about a foot high with 2 foot high banks just to stop drafts and to stop him laying down right next to the wall. The bale costs me £20 and i am using one a month.
Nice deep comfy looking bed, so much quicker to muck out as i dont really have to sift through the bed as i can sacrifice a lot more with it being so cheap, Takes a bit longer to lay back down and mess with but its not heavy so doesnt take much effort to be honest.

I use Snowflake Softchip, put in a bale every 4-5 days, and they're about £6/bale so about £45/month I guess.

I semi deep-litter, and take the wet out when I add a bale. My horse is very dirty and quite wet, but this works really well for me.

I deep litter, so take poo out everyday and wet every few weeks when it works it's way to the top. One uses one bale of Laysoft and one small bale of straw a month like this. The other uses 4 bales of Laysoft a month @ £6 a bale.

I started on straw... The little madam was eating it, so I switched to bliss. Was lovely for the first month then it started to take all the moisture from the air and went a horrible colour, plus it's really heavy when wet. I was putting approx 1 bale in a week, and digging out the wet once a week, towards the end I found myself adding more.

Have just switched to aubiose, I'm deep littering and not digging out the wet until the spring. It's 10.50 ish per bale, hoping to put 1/2 - 1 bale down a week... We shall see.

The straw was a big square bale, £32, the blis was about £8per bale.

Roll on summer when she can be out more :)

I'm on a deep litter system in Winter and use a bale every 4/5 days. In at night, so I guess 6 bales a month = £60 a month (bales are £7.50 each)....sometimes it's 5 a month.

In Summer when he's out at night (in for a few hours during the day) I probably use 1 bales every 10 days or so, 3 a month = £22.50

Can't use straw as it plays havoc with his feather, otherwise I'd have a lovely deep straw bed.

Mine have the extra thick rubber matting down - then use the bits of hay that has fallen from their nets to cover the floor but apart from that nothing else x

This thread makes me want to cry!!

Realistically, to keep his bed vaguely socially acceptable, 8 bales of shavings per month at £8 a bale. £64 per month on wood that is thrown on a muckheap. That's with rubber mats, too. Messy b*gger.

two of mine are on shavings and they go thorugh one bale a week each so about £29 each a montn
the other three are on straw.
one has a big bale a month (stored in his stable and he doesn't eat it)
the other two abouth three as one box walks and is filthy but cheaper on straw than shavings these are about £40 pound an month for the straw.

I use 2 -3 bales Bedmax a week occasionally 4 I don't think about the cost - if he needs it he gets it

My pony is on straw as he refuses point blank to wee on shavings, he has a massive deep bed right up to the door with banks about 3.5ft high. He poos in 1 pile and wees in one place and take his wee out every couple of days depending how much hes been pacing and head flinging round his box and how much ive managed to get him out. 1 round bale lasts him 10wks maybe 12wks and costs me £25 a bale.

my boy has shredded paper and goes through 30 bags a month - its free I get it from work.
my girl has straw 30 per quad/heston and uses 2 per year, they are in every night in summer and all day and night in winter. Not sure why I don't just put her on paper as well as there is plenty spare.

Mine is on wood pellets at about £4.60 a bag and I use one every 4 days so about £35 a month *cries*

I prefer shavings but they just don't work in my current stable :(
