Having a slight issue atm when it comes to the part liveries. They have to muck out there own horses two days a week, but some of them are taking up to 3 bags of wood pellets to add to there beds! Do any of you have a restriction on how much bedding etc per week? Just not financially ok for my business:-(

Yes every yard that i have worked on had X bags of bedding a week included, I would have thought that it was standard to have this agreed as some people will take the p!

We have the same rule as pairciban where I work. 1 bale of shavings per week, but additional bales can be bought from the yard (at a very good price) if needed.

People will always take advantage. Some liveries sometimes seem to want you to subsiside their horse, and not pay what it actually cost to keep them.. Limit them to a certain number a week.

People always take advantage if they are allowed an unlimited amount. If it's haylage they will over stuff their nets till they can hardly carry them. I buy pellets in bulk, a ton pallet at a time. I pass on the saving to another person & they use a tremendous amount. They pay the low cost that I pass on to them at a bag at a time. It gets used up so quickly that I have problems arranging other deliveries to arrive when I can be there to accept the load. Some people seem to think that because they are getting a great deal they can abuse the arrangement.

I have seriously thought of telling them to purchase their own bedding. By doing that their bedding would rise by just over £2.00 per bag because they haven't got the £250 to outlay on a full pallet. Why are people so greedy? Why do they have to abuse someone,s helpful nature?

If you do 5 of 7 muck outs why not tell them you will replenish the beds on one of your days since they don't need new pellets in every time you muck out surely?

It's standard on any livery to have a set amount of bagged bedding included in the price and extra gets charged on top. The only exception to this is when big bale straw is used, that is usually adlib.

Are they topping up because they feel you are leaving the beds quite poor? Or are the beds excessively deep?

Most part livery yards include one bale in with the livery then it's extra for any more.

I have the opposite problem.

I'm on 5 day part livery and have to buy my own shavings as only straw is included in the price. On the P/L days the staff take out way too much bedding i.e they scoop up a dropping along with a whole bunch of clean shavings and chuck the lot in the barrow instead of shaking the clean shavings back in to the bed, which means I have to use way more bales of shavings than I should to keep the bed deep enough.

Can't wait for April when I can go back on to DIY for the summer :)
