How much bigger did your youngster get after 2?

Nothing useful to add but a gratuitous picture of my boy, 2 yo today! Pic from yesterday. I'm 5ft5". He measured about 14.1/14.2 just after Christmas and is due to make 15.2. I read somewhere that 2 year olds have reached 90% of their adult height but I would guess that depends on breed and nutrition. DSC00052small.jpg

Winter babies in my opinion are a year younger growth wise. They have missed out on a year of spring/summer grass. Irish cobs can also continue to grow for some time if bum high.
I had an Irish heavy cob that was an April baby. She was 13.2 as a 2yo and finished up just shy of 15h

Arab X welshD grew an incredible 2 hands from 18 months to 6yrs.
He was very slow to grow at first - stayed at 13hh from 18months to 2.5yrs - then increased gradually in build and height to full 15.3hh at 6yrs.
Sire full arab 15.3hh, dam 50arabX50%welshD 14.2hh

He seemed ‘lanky young’ for ages!

Love hearing these! It’s very interesting to know. My just turned 2yo is just under 16hh at the wither and 16.1 at the rump. Was told he’d be about 16.1! Warmblood type ?

I bought a cob who was measured at fifteen hands and half an inch at four, not two, and he was fifteen three and a half when I sold him at eight.

The two two year olds I have owned put on three inches for one and over four inches for the other between two and five.

A warmblood i bought at four was two inches bigger at ten.

Yours could have a lot of height left to come, but maybe not five inches.

The one who did over four inches, and I don't think he has stopped yet.

Kitten was two last week and has just topped hazel at 13.2 I am hoping for 13.3/14hh fuly grown which is about her genetic height. She has suddenly grown as she was 12.3 for ages over the winter. Sad to say every native I have owned has stopped at 2.5 and just filled out and look bigger

Mine was 14hh this time last year as a 3 year old. He was 14.1hh at the end of the summer, after being fed hard feed for the first time during the summer.IMG_20200608_135954.jpg
He was 14.2hh on a stick in January when he went to be broken, measured as a full up 14.3hh two weeks ago and has gone bum high again! Given that I'm 5'9 I'm very glad he's grown ?

He's also half Clydesdale so it looks like he missed out on some growing somewhere along the line.

He’s grown up and not out at all! So lots of filling out to do. Maybe he’s getting the height out of the way first? Haha. I’m not too fussed really. I’m 5’7 with quite a long leg so he should be fine for me whatever he makes ?

Ahh what I’d give to be 5’7 with long legs ? Will be interesting to see how he grows and fills out! What does the string test say? If you’ve done one?
I forgot to do the string test today, I’ll have to do one tomorrow and post it on here. Xx

aw gorgeous! Clydesdales are slow growers aren’t they? So he’s probably still growing. My friend has an 18hh Clydesdale who didn’t stop growing until 8 xx

I'm hoping he'll hit a solid 15.1hh or so because then I can justify keeping him as a forever horse. He's a project that's turned into a really special one that I'd like to keep hold of so fingers crossed ?

No I haven’t done one, funnily enough I was thinking about it today! I’ll have to try it! X
