a bit of a random question perhaps.

I got into a discussion about how much weight horses can carry before it may affect their joints/backs etc. I don't mean 'how much would it take to break a back' as a one-off, but how much is advisable on a regular basis.

Some people seem to think that for example small icelandic ponies can still easily carry more than a 100 kg, and that horses can carry up to 200kg. I am not convinced at all that this would be harmless.

Obviously it varies from horse to horse and depends on how light the rider rides as well, but I am looking for a general guidelines.

Has anyone heard of a study or some research relating to general max recommended weight on horses of different breeds/heights/bone?
