How much can I expect to pay for riding lessons?

I bought my first horse, not realising how nervous I had become since having lessons 4 years ago. I am struggling to ride My mare because I just can't get on, I was gettingy confidence up riding in a secure field but I fell when she spooked and now I just can't get back on. I managed to get on yesterday after she wasn't ridden for 2 weeks and she was completely different, really forward and spooky. I need lessons but I'm not sure I can afford them right now. I have a trailer to use to get to somewhere with a ménage. How much does everyone pay for a lesson ( on their own horse ). South/mid Wales area
 
I'd join your local riding club and get lessons that way - they usually work out a fair bit cheaper. I think Y Fenni is probably your closest one - they're based mostly at Triley Fields in Abergavenny. There's also Torfaen who I think are mostly based Cwmbran/Pontypool way or Golden Valley which is Brecon way. You're probably slap bang in the middle of all three - not really close to any of them but not miles away either!

If you're travelling anyway I would take the RC route, you can attend group lessons which will make it cheaper.

If you can ride in your field you could always ask if an instructor will come to you? You will save on petrol and arena hire that way. I do this and my instructor costs £25 an hour.

I found my instructor through a recomendation, and from seeing how she rides, trains and treats her own horses. BHS qualifications aren't necessarily the be all and end all and I often find experience is better than qualification. I would also be wary of the cheap or instructors who over-advertise themselves ( I think recomendations should speak for themselves sometimes and when someone is constantly plastering their services on facebook I find it a bit off putting)
