How much can I safely feed at any one time of a bucket feed of alfa a oil, unmolassed sugarbeet and high fibre nuts for said horse 17hh TB for weight gain/maintenance? I have bins of the stuff to use up!

Thanks :)

the horses stomach is about the size of a rugby ball so if you put in more than about 2lb of feed at a time it will just go straight through. For weight gain you will be best off giving several small feeds a day instead of one big one.

^^^Sorry, that is not the case at all, I am fully aware about feeding little and often and how the horses digestive system works, my question is more geared towards, these feedstuffs can be used as partial hay replacers right?

You are right that you can give larger amounts in one go of fibre feeds than you can cereal-based feeds. However, you need to go easy on the Alfa A Oil as too much alfalfa can provide too much protein and minerals if fed to excess - contact Dengie for the maximum you can feed to a horse your size per day.
