How much chicken and rice to feed?

Hey everyone, hope you're all well!

Back again for a bit of advice, the fur face had a wee infection last week and has just completed his course of antibiotics and poor thing is now a bit squitty.

Called the vet for reassurance and they've said it's to be expected and just to feed him boiled chicken and rice little and often.

I forgot to ask how much though coz I'm a numpty!

He's supposed to be 33kg but when he was weighed last week he's sitting at 38kg so he needs a diet after his stomach settles again - much guilt, bad mum!

How much would you give a dog his size please?

as a guide i gave my terrier a chicken breast with 3/4 of a frozen rice portion, the ones where you buy a bag and its got 4 or 6 little packets to use in the microwave. terrier is 8kg.. i would think you could double the chicken and use a whole packet of rice, better to give him a bit less if he is overweight and not feeling right, it will only be temporary so it wont harm him..what breed is he?

Thanks splashgirl, he's a big multi breed heinz mix.

The weight has crept on over the last year, too many snacks in between meals. Will be more careful from now on though.

He normally gets his food split between breakfast and dinner but I'm going to do the chicken and rice thing split over 4-5 mini meals.

Vet said if he's not right by Monday to call in for an appointment.

Thanks Oldernotwiser, just been out for last wee and poo and everything was a lot firmer already so that's reassuring.

So maybe 2 and a half breasts and a packet of rice split down should be about right then do we think?

My springer had diarrhoea for some days last week and was not hungry, very unusually, so the chicken/rice combo didn’t work. I gave him the Sainsbury’s own brand tablets for diarrhoea which cleared it up after 2 doses. It has the same active ingredient as Imodium, which you could give-Loperamide hydrochloride.

If the dog is eating, scrambled egg is also good, or cooked carrot or squash. Sainsbury often has tinned pumpkin in the American section which is apparently great for diarrhoea. Given his size, I’d be giving 2 breasts and up to 8 tablespoons of rice-rinse it well before and after cooking. Mine get natural love yoghurt every meal anyway.

Hey cinnamontoast, thanks for the advice, he had 2 eggs for breakfast and everything seems a lot firmer today so hopefully we're on the up again!
