Good god, I have absolutely no idea!! Far too long ago!! And not having paid for a lesson since I was about 12/13, I wouldn't have clue what I should expect to pay now.
It would have been 1976 or 77, probably 1977, and i believe my mum paid £1.25, which was pretty pricy for it. My lessons after that were £1.50 for (IIRC) a 45 minute group lesson. I know by 1982 my mum was paying £1.95 for a 30 minute group lesson and still thought it was expensive
I remember when my lessons went up to £3.00 my parents said if they went up again they'd have to reconsider whether i could go every week.....
Luckily they didn't stop me though...
REmember them being scandalised that they'd pay for a leson and then I'd stay working down the yard for the rest of the day and only get an extra ride if I was lucky! How things change....
I remember my Mum thinking she was being very safety conscious putting some elastic under my hat to stop it falling off too! Ha Ha
My first lesson aged 7 was in 1964 and I'm guessing it was about 5 shillings (mum did the paying and is no longer around to ask). When I was 10 we moved house and the hourly rate was £1 - my pocketmoney was also £1! If I put in a few hours' work at the local riding school I got free lessons (and also kept my pocketmoney). By the time I was 14 I was earning £5 a weekend at the school and getting free lessons - so it paid off in the end!
