How much did you pay for your horse?

How often do you ride?

I totally agree Tierra, especially about the steroetype. Beau's previous owner did exactly that, went to the sales and bought a horse that moved nicely and sounded good on paper.

She came home, got a 'good' trainer, who then of course raved about him, said he would be good enough to do PSG ! Now I love my horse, but I know he is nowhere near that good!
I think many people get swept away by the dream.

Agree about the SJ yards to, its like if you were to send a horse away to be prof schooled, what you would pay for livery and schooling at a SJ yard, you would probably pay more than that JUST for livery at a dressage yard!

I paid £3000 for Hannah, an IDxTB (who has just had a fantastic foal by Pro-Set) as a 6 year old, or so we thought. She was more than likely 4/5 years and very green, so she is now around the 11/12 yrs mark. She was competing unaffil Elementary before she went in foal and I am very excited about bringing her back into work in October and affiliating her BD because she is so capable with the right training and I have improved so much in a year with my new trainer.

I paid £2,500 for Grace, which looking back was an absolute bargain

I bought her as a backed but relatively unridden 5 year old who had lived out all of her life and never seen or done anything. She has not been the easiest of horses to restart, but now she is on my side she will try her hardest to please you. She is now 6 years (I have owned her for just under 10 months), has 11 BD points since May and has qualified for the Winter Champs in Prelim and Novice Restricted. She has come so far in such a short space of time, which makes me realise just how much potential the dizzy ginger one has!

I paid £800 15months ago for my then 5YO very green underweight TB. I think it was a fair price if not a bit of a bargin, I could see past his problems and have worked hard with him to get him where he is now. We still have a way to go but when I first got him you had difficulty getting of the yard for a hack never mind schooling nicely in an outline and 100% to hack like he is now.

Hes not actually done anything as i have no transport but he has the "potential" (theres the dreaded word) to do dressage/XC/SJ. I would love to be able to take him places i just cant get him anywhere, even though he is capable. He would love to fly round an XC course!

I paid £3,000 for frankie (first 2 pics in sig) 4 years ago as a just broken 5 yr old that had done Nothing, He is now Novice eventing.

My sister and I paid £1,400 for Tilla as an unbroken 3 year old (last pic in sig) and she has just sold subject to vet for £6,000 (fingers crossed)

Paid £4500 for both mine together. Very reasonable IMO, both have competed internationaly, and as soon as I got one I was offered about twice what i paid for both for just one because of his breeding to match their team. Going by current prices I could sell mine for that each now as riding ponies, or more for driving although I still have the offer for Ginga to go to his brothers for a rediculous amout in holland.

i paid £60 for my reg Welsh A, he was unbroken and 4 years old, he's now 10 and 2 months ago i was offered 2K for him, but i would never put a price tag on him, he's with me till he kicks the bucket.
i paid £1200 for my Cob x, he was unbroken but only took 4 weeks to do! was told i could get atleast £2800 as he stands but when he's done more i could get more but i'll try and not sell him!
project pony whos hopefully sold i paid £400 for and selling for £1500 and buying my colt Bertie with some of her money for £600.

I paid 2000 for my anglo arab in december, and I think he's worth every penny and feel very lucky to have him

Paid 850 for my welsh cob mare about 3 weeks ago. Im currently backing her and she's not put a foot wrong, so very pleased with her also

i paid £2000 for sid my tb (in sig) 2years ago
my sister gave £1200 for her celevland bay buzz and my parents £500 for my welsh cob, 15 years ago!
sid being the most expensive is probably worth the same as i paid as he is now blemished but an absolute babe, I love them all

Dad paid 4500 for pickle. Then paid extra for his tack!
Probably paid a bit much, but he was the first safe horse, that my dad could have learnt to ride on, he was worth every penny

Paid £1000 for Toff which is £999.99p too much

She's bad in traffic, naps, has no brakes in winter, will only jump when she wants to, on her terms, will only load on her terms unless bribed by either Twiglets of Ginger nuts, has a long sagging back, can be bolshy to handle and tries to bite all my friends

However she has a great bond with me and we have done a bit of everything from showing to hunting and I wouldn't change her for the world

I paid £1750 for D, a 16.2hh irish TB who had been hobdayed and has a joint problem that 2 years on means he needed to be semi retired. Yep, he was overpriced but I had him on loan first and like someone said to me he is worth meat money and whatever he means to me so of course I was going to pay it. I'm glad I did, he has taught me alot

I paid £2950 for a 16.3hh registered part bred arab x saddlebred who at 6 years old had'nt really done much apart from hack. I think I paid too much for him as he is at the moment but I hope with some correct schooling he will turn out to be a good allrounder

I paid £500 for Thelly, she's shown successfully and she's at Elementary level dressage at the moment, I think I got a bargain, although she is a handful to ride at home, but she sure makes up for it out competing. Of course, she's totally priceless now.
