I have been keeping a log of this and excluding all the extras (eg tack, rugs, entry fees, etc) it is about £180 per month for the basics with them being kept at home. Is this a lot?

i have a pony that costs me £60 per month(lives on fresh air) and £10 every 8 wks to have his feet trimmed? but then 2 TB's that cost nearer £150 month each?

i'm just in the process of trying to work out how much mine cost as you can prob tell from all my random posts tonight:

so far i have worked out the cost £70 pound a month just to feed, then theres £120 every 7 weeks for shoes, £70 shavings, they live at home so no livery, there hardly eating hay at the mo, but in the winter we go through a big round bale every two weeks at £25 a bale so that £50, £25 joint sup

so a far bit and i wonder why we have no money, it's scary with the price of feed going up at the same rate of petrol at the mo, i remember when i paid £7 odd for comp mix it's over £10 now

I dont really want to know, but for the basics, £30 each per week for diy livery, one uses about one bale of shavings a week the other up to three at £6.95 each, £105 every seven weeks for both to be shod, about every other month £37 per stable to have the muck trailer emptied, they have bran at about £6 about every month, chaff at £5 every month, a mix about every two weeks at £8.45 and one has nuts about every month at around £9, then I have a delivery of hay and haylage every two weeks that comes to about £60, they are going to be living out now so hoping i'm going to save some money with one going on to a different diet feed no bedding etc, oh and insurance at £65 for both every month then teeth and vacs once a year and various supplements which i cant be bothered to list! Not going to add that up, as that is just the basics becasue i seem to having a huge uncontrollable urge to buy things that other people's horses seem to live without but mine just cant lol

I have worked it out to be about £400 - and that's at DIY.

Best not to start adding it all up really....

oh yeah wormers and lessons, where will it all end, sorry i'm in a bit of a despairing mood as i have two horse on box rest one hurt by the other but they cant be seperated! grr horses

mine cost me about £100 a week between them, on DIY, but then one is a horse in work, and one is a pony who doesnt do much at all!....and they are both cobby types......I dont think I could afford to feed a TB!

about £10 a month.

seriously

that goes on : feet trimmed every 3 months and wormer. In the winter I might buy a bag of pony nuts a month...

gosh i dread to think, errrmm here goes (based on winter basics):

stabled at home - no cost
shreded paper - free from work
hay p/m - £30
feed p/m - £30
supplements p/m - £20
worming p/m - £10
farrier p/m - £20
Teeth p/m - £5
McTimoney p/m - £10
insurance p/m - £35

Total: £160

and i wonder why i never have any money!

£500 for livery, £55 for shoes, £30 for a bag of topspec balancer every three months and show entries/horsebox hire/insurance/random things on top

eek - thats for one pony!

I have a TB. Per month (During the winter) I buy:
x4 shavings = £28
Shoes (Fronts only) = £30
x1 bag of Chaff = £10
x1 bag of pasture mix = £10
Summpliments (Garlic, stroppy mare, Magic Calmer, vitamins) = £30 ish
Livery = £173
All together thats about £281 a month during the winter, which is actually quite cheap as she is cheap to feed. My last TB cost nearly double that a month, mainly on feed!

I also loan a cob who costs during the winter per month:
Livery = £108 (Grass livery)
Shoes (Fronts) = £30
Chaff = £10
Pasture mix = 10
Suppliments (Garlic, vitamins) = £20

However he is on the same feed and suppliments as the TB. Alltogether he costs £178 a month.

Funnily enough I was talking to my hairdresser about this yesterday as I had just spent £101.54 on 3 bags pasture mix, 2 bags conditioning cubes, 1 bag mollichaff, 1 wormer, 1 container of Pro Pell & some Keratex hoof hardener. I wasn't surprised it was that much but it did make me think about what I'd do with my money if I didn't have a horse to spend it on. Life would be so dull if we didn't have horses so I don't begrudge spending money on him. God forbid I ever spent any money on myself though!! That would be scandalous.

Approximately £200 per month for one on DIY livery plus shoes at £60 per set every 8 weeks, living out at the mo so living on fresh air!!

oh goodness....
£32 p/w livery (diy)
£12 p/w shavings
Bag of Cool Mix every 6-8 wks £6.00
Joint supplements £70 every 2 mts
£50 shoeing every 6 wks
£12 wormer every 12 wks or so
£6 p/w for group lesson
£35 every 6 mts for equine dentist
Plus loads for extra things I don't/can't remember!!!!!!

For both of mine basic DIY,feed, supplement, hay, farrier £300.00 but I think like this Its the only thing I do for example my PA came in yesterday showing me a designer handbag that was same size as an envelope that cost well over £300, friends spend £100 on a night out up town so in reality my thing my horses are cheap !

I have 3 Horses (2 shod, 1 not) and a sec A (not shod) I keep them on my parents land free of charge

up to £30 a week on feed
£4 a week on carrots
£130 every 7 weeks one shoes and trimming
£150 (ish) a year on flu and tet
£60 a year on teeth
£50 every 3 months for wormers
Good knows how much on petrol to get to the yard!

OMG!!! Scarey! No wonder I'm always skint!

My livery is dirt cheap
grin.gif

£60/month livery
£30/month hoof supplement stuff
£20/month insurance (over 10 months though)
averages at £15/month for feet
averages at about £5/month for yearly vaccinations
£10/month ish for wormers
bedding is difficult because technically she's out 24/7 but is kept in during bad weather, so probably £10/month for bedding if she comes in for one or two nights
about £5/month for a yearly dentist visit

Roughly £155/month for a horse I still can't ride... what went wrong?! At least I get cheap livery
grin.gif

Of course then there's the £50+ a month that Maiden insists I pay to my vet...

I dont think ive come across anyone who is as cheap as mine
smile.gif

Livery: £64 p/m
Food: £10 p/m
Shoes/Trims: £35 p/m (if i halve it as its done every 6 weeks)
Hay: Free
Straw: Free
Shavings: £7 p/m (If i choose to use it)
Worming: £5 p/m if worked out over the year.
Insurance: £27 p/m

Dentists/vets etc are on invoices so i dont include them.

I dont include lessons as they are so varied at the moment until i get into a proper rountine when i find a proper instructor it'll probably be £60 p/m.

=£148.00- for THREE horses! (one yearling, one retired mare and one 6yo)

For 2 TB's in work, 1 retired pony & a filly - about £250-£350 per month depending on in/out etc.

I get cheap livery for looking after Land owners horse & cut my own hay which saves loads. I have a sharer who does mornings for me too which saves petrol.

Mine on DIY was approx £200 month at a maximum (so easily can include wormer etc).

Just moved yards so livery gone up slightly BUT hay/straw inclusive so should work out similar!

£50 week doesn't sound that bad, especially when you compare it to some people's nights out!!!
