How much do you charge a sharer?

Wondered how you decide on what to charge a sharer. Do you divide up livery exactly by seven days a week and then charge them according to how many days they ride a horse? What about shoes and other extras? And what about if horse is out of work - do you still charge?

Of course it depends on how expensive yard is. Cheaper ones you can be more generous. My current share is to the exact penny percentage of the days I ride. And it is expensive.

Fair enough, I suppose, I get to ride a nice horse, except it's not my horse - in that I can't decide anything about him whatsoever, he is still the owner's horse. She is great and we get on well, but I still wonder what others are doing. Please let me know!

well I pay £15 a week but livery isnt much and I look after the horse alot of the time. I think it depends alot on the sharer and how much help is done and how much riding is got.

I know a couple of people who have share type arangements & what they pay depends. One has a very similar set up to yours & it works very well for her & the sharer. I know other people who just ask for their jobs doing on the days the sharer rides.

I think you are probably in a better situation as the sharer if you contribute to the livery, etc like you do as it is more difficult for the owner to just drop you. I do think that the sharer should have some involvement in decisions about the horses management, etc.

I had a sharer for one of mine for a while - she rode two days a week and paid 2/6 of the livery cost, since she was riding 2/6 of the time available to ride.

I think if people don't need the money that much and don't have time to ride/look after the horse, they maybe charge less?

My sharer has paid £5 everytime she rode Bailey, my primary reason for having a sharer was so he got exercised so any money was a bonus.

We have just got a little sharer who is doing 3 days our of 5. She pays nothing, but for those three days we can now put Chloe on DIY, so it is saving us livery costs.

When i shared i paid half towards livery and shoes, any vets bills his owner paid and we had a contract drawn up to say that, it turned out that i rode more than his owner as she was at work all week, then did him at weekends

I pay £50 a month for 3 days a week, (but can pretty much do what I want so can go up 7 days a week if i want to) which is peanuts really. But its cheap as i really help the woman out as she has 2 and just cant find the time to ride in the winter!

I used to pay half shoes every 6 weeks and that was it! I had 4 days of doing what I liked and could also ride on the days the owner wasn't riding if I wanted too.
