how much do you do with your yearling ?

ok so i have had my yearling 4 weeks now and so far we have done all the feet picking out,happy tied up being groomed,introduced him to the bit yesturday and he was fine,hes fab in the stable i groom him,muck out round him,all the norm stuff you do,also done the show him scarey stuff on our travels,i also make him wait for his feed for about a min and also can leave the stable door open and he doesnt come out,he also takes himself to bed from the yard,when i call him to go and catch him he calls back and gallops flat out to me

i dont think ive done to bad with him concidering ive not had him long,when i brought him he hadnt even had his feet picked up

how much do you do ? just wanted to know what stages you are at

When my little one was a yearling we actually did quite a lot.
She was taught how to stand quietly to be groomed, have her feet picked etc, we walked around and met farm machinery, bikes, flapping bags, all with a well behaved "example setter".
I'm very proud of her now, as things that scare a lot of older horses, dont bother my now 2 yr old at all!

yes my lad has to walk past 2 polytunnels that flap in the wind and the tarp that covers our carriage up in the yard,i walked him up to it the other day and flapped it around !! he decided that his feed was more importanat and wanted to go to bed lol !! he see's tractors (one muck spreading next to his field yesturday) cars and lots of people

I have a 14month old horsey and have had him since last november, done pretty much all the things you have done, i generally do something with him every day just something small like leading him into the stables and grooming him and picking his 4 feet up he has been to 3 shows were he behaved impeccably compared to a lot of older horses he got champion reserve at 1 show, he's had a few baths been plaited up, mane pulled, boxed etc and to be honest i think he is the best behaved horse on my yard, he's had the clippers on him to trim up his face. when the farrier comes he trims him and also has a little tap and a rasp on his feet and then he gets to watch the older guys have there shoes on.
i dont lead him about to much or anything i believe until they are 2 you shouldnt put to much strain on their young joints .
When i got him he was a little sod so quite pleased with him now.

I used to do lots with our yearlings, lots of handling and showing them the world, i used to take them out on walks of about 2miles where i would hack out on the adult horses, they always enjoyed their little walks
