How much do you enjoy riding?

There seem to be so many horsey people I meet who don't seem to get that much enjoyment out of riding, but still "love" riding...

Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts?

Have to say that I have more fun going for a hack to the beach or having a ride in the empty arena with someone keeping an eye than I do when I'm trying to "work" at something...

I've decided that, since I have confidence issues, I should have fun with my horse first and foremost and learn through experience rather than try and do too much at once.

i'm now having much more fun than when I was having 2 lessons every week...

I love riding! its the only thing i can do where i for get everything else and for that time i am with the horse only we matter! i had a break for about a year, and i hated it!!! Riding, and looking after my shared horse is my only outlet and i would hate to not ride anymore!

It just seems like there's lots who look on riding as a bit of a chore, perhaps...
or are maybe more afraid of their horse than they'll admit?

I don't know.
Just a thought.

I love riding. My favourite is just gonig for a wee bimble down the lane whether I'm on my own or have some company. But like AmyMay, I wish I was better at it!

I sort of understand what you mean - I know I enjoy spending time with my horse more than I do actually riding, although I do still enjoy riding. If you get me

I am almost forced to ride every day in order to keep my good-doer's weight down, which sort of takes the pleasure and spontaneity out of it somewhat.

I love spending time with my horse and riding although admittedly I sometimes do feel more like I have to ride rather than wanting to, but I think thats mainly when I've got lots of other things I need to do and am feeling pressed for time. Thats not to say I don't still enjoy it though!

Nope, it bores me witless after about 10 minutes which is why I have youngsters. I get much more out of teaching them groundwork/manners/etc and someone else can have them when they are ready to ride. Even when I had a riding horse I quite often used to just take him for walks in-hand as I couldn't be bothered to tack up!

I love riding, although I'm glad I don't have my own and have the ride of other people's horses.
Love a bit of schooling

And Popping the odd fence too

I love riding my horse. The reason I bought him is cos he's perfect for me! My favourite is to go for a gallop through the fields in the evening sunshine. Far more fun than competing, although I love that too as you get to see how good you actually are rather than being in a controlled environment.
I also love grooming him, bathing him etc as we have a great relationship but sometimes it's difficult to motivate yourself I admit!

i love riding , i ride everyday and still gives me same thrill .
i like nothing more than jumping and competing oh and going for very fast gallops = D

It depends entirely on what im riding. My 17yo i dont ride very often at all as he is now very steady and a bit of a plod and i get bored. I love riding when its a youngster or anything unpredictable- im at that point where i love the ones that gallop really fast, rear up etc, it makes it exciting. But in general i am just as happy, if not more so to groom my 2yo, hes my favourite of my horses and the one i most like to spend time with.

Unfortunatley currently i dont like riding as my new pony is taking the pee and im too much of a wimp to enjoy it.

Im working on it though- previous to that i used to enjoy going for a little hack and a canter in the field and would do it most days although i enjoy my days off as much as she does!

I love riding my horse, not too bothered about riding others though. they always seem a bit of a dissapointment after my boy.

No better way to start the day than a wander around the lanes in the sunshine, throw in a few gallops around some freshly silaged fields and I'm in heaven ( had a lovely ride this morning)

I also love my dressage lessons and jumping, yep pretty much love riding.

I do find it hard to get motivated in the winter though but once I'm on board it's fine.

I love riding and miss it so much at the moment. I still get excited like a little kid at the thought of being able to ride even if only for 10 minutes

even a walk down the lane is fun to me haha
would kill to be able to have my own horse

I love riding but am certainly not the type to be majorly competetive. I much prefer gentle hacks & relaxed local shows.

As with you, I'm not very confident & don't enjoy jumping etc that much. I hate the pressure that there sometimes is to be a certain standard, as if by only hacking I'm not pushing myself or my horse far enough but then again I don't understand people that are really into Dressage etc so I suppose it is horses for courses (if you'll excuse the pun

I love it, but I seem to end up spending much more time foot bandaging, leg hosing and going to the vets than ever actually riding.

I loved riding when I had my own, but have to admit to way preferring schooling or jumping- not at home though, her jumping at home was manic. Not a fan of hacking, even if it is a good one with gallops and green fields etc. Afraid if I wanted to go hacking I'd go hunting instead, or jumping in the summer LOL

I love riding my pony

it always puts a smile on my face. I do need to ride him 6 days a week to keep his weight down, but it never feels like a chore. I can't ride on Thursdays because I go to college, and I always miss it. Nothing blows away all my stress like a good Murphy canter

For me, riding is the best way of focusing and afterwards I'm just so pleased with my horse. He is pretty good though, I think it'd be different if my horse was really lazy.

Love riding! I must admit that occassionally I feel a bit lazy & have to force myself to get on board but once I'm up there I enjoy myself! I get a buzz from watching my horse go from tubby-had-an-easy-winter to fit-not-an-ounce-of-fat!

Like others have said I wish I was better though...!

I love riding - I love schooling when I achieve something I've been working at and the horse goes nicely (we have our bad days but that happens with everything), I love jumping, I love going out for a nice long hack with plenty of canters
grin.gif
and I love taking him to new places to challenge us both

Still really enjoy riding but not as much as I used to when it comes to lessons and have given up competing for now. Love spending time with the nagletts and grooming. Watching the herd in the fields is something I could do for hours (they are an active lot lol). I much prefer hacking and the day hacks up the mountains are the best thing in the world.

I love riding but I equally enjoy just grooming and spending time with Ellie. As someone else has said nothing blows stress away like a good canter or a flat out gallop

Again as others have said I wish I was better at it although I've been told by another lady at the yard I 'look like good little rider' which i must admit did my ego good

I love riding, although George is testing me at the moment! But I also love being around him just as much. When I was on assisted DIY I did find riding difficult simply because mucking out and feeds HAD to be done leaving me so little time to ride / spend time with him. Now I'm on full livery - bliss!

I have a talented dressage horse but we both love hacking more than anything, unfortunately she keeps injuring herself and when i have been able to ride shes been really naughty so not enjoyed it much recently just makes me frustrated. Fingers crossed she'll be uninjured and well behaved at some point this summer but with her being a Thoroughbred i won't hold my breath lol
