How much do you insure for?

mines insured for £3,500 even though hes worth alot more cause of his breeding. We got him for £3000 and my sisters pony we bought for £550 and hes insured at that price

Mine arent insured- I take the risk that if they need anything major done, I'd have to think very seriously before going ahead.
But none of mine are worth very much anyway and I get public liability/3rd party through various memberships.

One thing puzzles me about "insuring for the horses value"

Who values them? As there are horses out there that I wouldn't give you two bob for, but are up for 3k for example.

A horse is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it ~

Wouldn't it be good if they did a book on horse values, relative to age, condition, mileage etc, like the car dealers have!!

None of mine are insured over here except for liability and damage to property. If they need the vet, they get him. Each horse has an individual value which is irrelevant to the sale price or purchase price, and each horse would have as much as we deemed acceptable.

In England all of my horses were insured for everything except mortality. None of them were insured for their market worth. I kept all "purchase prices" as close to £1,000 so as to keep the premiums low but without compromising on Vet fees or liability.

I can't understand people who insure their "regular" horses for thousands especially when lots of them don't even have mortality - doesn't make sense to me
