I am curious as to what quirks and behaviours people put up with and tolerate all in the name of love for their horse or pony? I have a friend who is a X Country Eventer and she has an amazing horse which she Events regularly despite the fact that he will sometimes nap in the middle of the X Country course. He is in all other respects awesome and she adores this horse ..... do any of you love your horse/ pony "despite" their little personality quirks and if so what are they ?

This is meant to be an endearing thread which shows our love for our horses so please no nasty or sarcastic posts, as my Mother says "If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all" .... Thanks :-)

One of mine is a witch to catch. But shes fab.

Shes also a royal pain in the backside to bit, and I had it cracked, but shes changed her mind again.

Well, Grey Horse likes to pull bits off his stable and bury them in his shavings....but he's so damned cute that you can't get mad at him....not even when he poos on his 2 new rugs before hes even worn them...!!

Brown horse is just generally a git in any way he can find....his main hobby is being difficult and finding THE most annoying thing to do in every situation! But he's also the most amazingly affectionate and cuddly horse...

I love that my horse is so expressive; that she makes it clear when she doesn't like her dinner by either chucking the still full bucket back over the door.

I like that if she 'approves' of someone she will walk up and 'snog' them and if she doesn't they get the 'look' and a tail swish.

I like that she is so honest and will always try to please, but I also like that she will tell me quite clearly when she is not feeling well.

I like that she is so forgiving.

So yes I love her for all of these things and more, they make her what she is.

My thoroughbred is an amazing jumper, and such a willing horse in general but is not very affectionate and not the kindest girl in the world! She's never actually gone for anyone, but pulls some horrible faces!
My chestnut pony is just lovely, she's not the easiest to ride and is very bouncy but is the most amazing speedy jumper, and i love them both to bits!

One of mine is bad to load, bad to clip, bad to pull his mane and likes to buck when excited! But he is an angel in all other respects and I wouldn't be without him! :D

Captain is a horse of 2 sides. For us he is an absolute sweetheart, he is loving, gentle and so sweet. He is also an absolute g*t for the vet, tries to kick him whilst missing us. Hates being told what to do, will doing almost anything he is "asked" to do, plants feet and refuses to be bossed. Cuddles are given freely to those he likes, he will try to eat the face off anyone he doesn't like. Nobody is brave enough to clip Cappy, he is very scared of the clippers, we think because he was hot branded and may have been clipped before being branded. He has opinions, which he is happy to share with you.

Fany is the sweetest natured horse you could ever imagine, she is kind gentle and loving. However she has a stubborn streak a mile wide. If she does not want to go somewhere she does not go, usually she just wants to go and look at the foals. We have tried everything, she just will not move until she has had a good look. However, she is bombproof when out and a lovely easy ride. Nothing nasty or quirky about Fany but she is a mare, with opinions.

Merlin gets very wound up at feed time or if his water is taken away as he was abused. He nips if you ignore him, I swear he finds this funny. In situations he finds stressful he's awful to lead and he needs to be tied up to tack up. But he's an angel to ride and really very affectionate.

Small useless ginger pony is completely unable to stand up for herself in the field and rushes around like a headless chicken at times. Box walks when your not doing something quickly enough and does the most spine crunching bucks known to mankind. But she's really quite sweet and is perfect to handle and makes an excellent 'babysitter'.

Fudge is really arguementative if asked to do something he doesn't he doesn't the point of (lunging and turn on the forehand for instance ). He also nudges you, which I hate and can be the spookiest horse on the planet one day then bombproof the next. However he's very loving and the most beautiful horse in the world.

Bruce likes to give me slimey, snotty, gravy breath snogs when I am least wanting one....then give my hair a good chew....Love him to bits all the same!! xoxo

Ron is the most honest, straight-forwards (i.e. not in circles) horse you've ever met. But he doesn't do dressage and he doesn't do queueing for fences out hunting.

Tom is a right royal pain in the butt. He's obsessive compulsive, attention seeking, ADHD, and neurotic and he's the filthiest horse in the world (if it's not wet enough for his liking, he'll dig a hole, wee in it and then roll ). But my sister loves him - don't get em wrong he's a nice enough horse, just very hard work!
