Just had my fortnightly delivery of horse feed from animal feed supplier (they stock all makes of horse feed) and was shocked when I opened the bill. It seems rather a lot more than usual and when I dug out a bill from a few weeks ago, saw the prices had gone up by not just a few pence but by nearly a pound on some of the items. So, I will be phoning up D&H themselves tomorrow to get recommended retail prices and will also phone some other feed suppliers up, but just wondering how much you all pay for the following feeds. I know it will be cheaper for some of you who buy in bulk like I do, but on average, would like to know the following:

Bags of D&H Alfalfa - Pasture Mix - Build Up Mix - Build Up Cubes - Stud Cubes - Stud Mix

Also what are the cheapest basic horse and pony cubes anyone buys and what make are they?

Thanks.

My feed prices have also gone up. I think it is due to the VAT increase. I know you dont pay VAT on feed but you do on the fuel that goes into the lorries that deliver it etc. My feed has also gone up my around 70p.

I only use their Build Up Mix and that currently costs me £11.50. I only feed a scoop a day so a bag lasts me a while thank goodness!

Ive used Baileys Hi Light Horse and Pony Cubes before. They are fantastic and horses certainly look well on them. Havent bought a bag since last summer but they are around £5-6.

I was paying about £10.50 for a bag of build up mix, just checked at the feed merchant and it's gone up to £12.50! Thank god I'm looking at changing his feed as it's sending him loopy...

I've stopped using Build Up at £12 a bag it was getting too expensive, I have swopped mine onto Sweet Meadow Cond Mix, it is absolutely beautiful and is £9.80 a bag - quite a difference! My horses look slightly better on it too :)

Build up cubes range from £9 back home in cambridge to £11 up in stoke

Can I ask where you're getting your £9 Build Up Cubes from?

I think I must be lucky in that in response to the other answers, I'm actually paying less than you all are.

I did speak to the sales rep at D&H to ask if it was them putting prices up, or my feed supplier, and they assured me that it was actually themselves putting prices up and that they had been doing it on a regular basis for the past few months. I said my feed had gone up by nearly a pound a bag and they agreed and said that their rrp had actually gone up by about 70-80p per bag, so my supplier wasn't putting too much more on.

I asked why the prices had gone up and was told it was nothing to do with VAT or fuel prices, but the raw materials themselves had all shot through the roof. She did say that they aren't expecting any more rises at present but did also say that if the materials did drop in price, she doubted it would be passed on to the feed manufacturers, suppliers or us as buyers.

She said (as did my feed supplier) that every feed company had increased their prices regularly over the same period, (apart from Spillers - who apparently are about to put their prices up).

Let's hope we don't get any more shocks when we get our feed bills.

I get them from highgate out at willingham, but they may have gone up a bit recently as I haven't been for a while. Where do you get yours from?
