How much do you pay for full livery?

I pay £350 per week inclusive of vat.
They do everything 24/7 including cleaning the tack at least once a week, being there for the farrier and vet, Grooming and exercising 2 hours per day (and they do do it), mucking out and cleaning out the water drinkers, feeding once a day, mucking out. They also provide the feed and the bedding (wood chips) and they have someone on site an night. I phone up when I am going to ride and and the horse is tacked up for me and they hold the horse while I get on. My horse is turned out in it's own post and railed fenced paddock during the day and in at night.

Wow. That's scary but impressive.

Generally between about £150-£200ish per week depending on yard facilities and level of rider exercising, eg. schooling livery or just lunged/hacked.
This is in Herts, so not Essex but not far away!
When I had to put my horse on schooling livery when I had my knee op I was paying £180 per week.
That included all feed, hay, bedding on straw or shavings, daily turnout and exercise/schooling, grooming etc.

:-)

Don't want to start an argument but :
Sorry but to me its no different than having a ride at a riding school once or twice a week, everything done horse looked after equipment all clean and horse exercised. I don't see the point of having a horse if there is nothing left for the owner to do,they could go a week or more and come back and horse is groomed exercised etc etc.
IMO paying that amount cleaning tack only once a week is a bit stingy, I would expect it done every day.

As above part of having a horse is doing some of the chores / riding etc. Its a bit like having a car no emotion, no bond, Just get into it- drive it - hand it back. Strange.................. sorry I could not do that to my horses

The yard I will use for my new horse, wherever and whatever it may be, will be £520 per month and that is 7 days full livery. Techinally, I could just turn up and ride. They don't tack the horse up for you, but they will bring it in for you of you want. Everything bar supplements is included, as is being there for all vet/farrier/dentist/physio etc.

It's a stunning yard with sealed rubber stable floors, a sealed rubber yard floor. Each stable has rubber kick boards and anti cast strips and although the yard is not covered every horse can see at least 6 other horses opposite and to the sides and out to the school and fields. The school is a 60 x 20 competition surface arena at the end of the yard and a grass dressage arena and grass jumping arena. Hot and cold wash box and solarium, individual lock boxes and all sorts more. It's also not too big and the turnout is wonderful. The horses go out all year, guaranteed for as long as you want them to in the summer and for at least 8 hours a day in the winter :)

I cannot wait as it will allow me to work without compromising horse care and also spend more of my horse time actually with the horse. I will no doubt be mucking out and doing half of it myself anyway when I have time, but that will be my choice.

This is a yard in Gloucestershire which is not the cheapest area, but not the most expensive either x

And I think we should steer clear of making any comments on how someone chooses to enjoy their horse. We don't know them or the pressures of their life so I think it's unnecessary to make any comments...the horse is on full livery and wants for nothing, that is all that matters. :)

How can anyone come on here and comment on how someone else keeps and enjoys their horse in what is clearly a very high standard yard? We are all so used to 'full' livery being mucked out and brought in and out that when it is done properly professionally it's a surprise how much that costs!

Yes what Owlie pays is a lot - however if they can afford it then what is the problem? Their money, their horse, their choice. We don't know their circumstances. There are days when I wish I could afford to do just that!

We are also used to the yards being slated for failing to live up to expectations, I have had owners who for various reasons choose to keep their horse on full livery only coming up generally to ride but the horse does know them the so called bond is still there, most horses do not care who mucks them out, sweeps up, cleans tack, fills nets and mine are far too interested in the feed to be bothered who delivers it as long as it arrives.

The £350 per week livery is a very realistic price for the service provided, at £50 per day it is allowing the YO to run a thorough and honest yard with a sensible return to cover staff, feed etc as well as a return on the facilities.

I'm in Chelmsford and pay £320 a month full livery, includes absolutely everything except his feed as he has a special diet and I pay for it. YO even rides for me when I go on holiday.

When it comes down to it we all pay what we can afford, and what suits our lifestyles. I'm not on full livery, but i don't think my boys care who mucks out their stables, cleans their tack, ragworts their field, scrubs the water buckets, tidys the muck heap etc. etc. If I could turn up and have them both happy and comfortable in their tack, ready to hack out for hours of fun, I'd do it. The most important thing is they are cared for appropriately.

How exactly does shovelling poo and filling Haynets/water buckets and preparing feeds increase the bond with your horse? Does your horse assist you and you spend time together doing it? I feel most closely connected with my horse when my ridden relationship is going well, when we have had an amazing canter up a sunny hill, when she nickers for her feed after being worked and washed off.

I certainly don't feel our bond is strengthened while I muck out as she continues to stuff her face in the field.

Oh and I'm not on full livery and never have been.

It's no-one's business how any other owner chooses to have their horse cared for and what they choose to do with it, and it's sheer bad manners to pass negative comment just because someone does things differently to you.

If the horse is well cared for that's all that matters - and from the sound of OWLIE's livery package, the horse is probably getting its needs met better than the vast majority of leisure horses in this country.

I pay £68 for part, which is everything except exercise, grooming and tack cleaning. My horse genuinely doesn't give a toss who's mucking his bed out, and he certainly doesn't have less of a bond with me because someone else sweeps the yard every day.

I'm in Essex and pay approx. £580 full livery on straw. No exercise or tack cleaning but Rug changes and turn out/bring in. Includes use of schools.
Everything else such as holding for vet etc. is extra.

I am just envious if having that much spare cash! ;-)

My livery is 90/week which includes everything I need. Tbh I don't know how they make a profit on it when it comes to wages and provision of facilities. When you actually break it down - even that 350/week - it's an awful lot of hours being put in to our horses welfare.

I wouldn't be better off exchanging my hourly rate to do all that work myself.

Excuse me while I pick my jaw up off the floor! Blooming 'eck! It sounds very comprehensive but I would cry at that kind of bill haha!

Mine is £110pw. This includes feed, bedding and hay. They turn out and bring in (out all day and in at night), muck out, check waters, feed am and pm. If they know I am away for a few days, she usually goes on the horse walker or they get a staff member to ride her for a short time, although this is not every day and will be on an adhoc basis when they have spare time, unless I specifically request a day. To be honest that suits me and my horse! Also includes holding for farrier and vet.

£350 a week. This illustrates that you get what you pay for. This is proper full livery. Excellent standard of horse care tack cleaned horse groomed and exercised etc. Nowadays there is far too much corner cutting and people trying to do things on small budgets and not putting in the time needed.

I paid £75p/w whilst I had a broken leg. Incl feed, hay and bedding. No exercising. They did do the bare minimum with the horse though really, luckily I didn't have to endure someone else doing my horse for very long....

I'm not on full livery but I provide it , my yard is in Berkshire and is a small private yard with post and rail grazing with plenty of grass, 60 x 20 fab arena with a surface that never floods or freezes, full mirrors and show jumps which is graded every day, amazing hacking and in a lovely setting.
I charge £140 per week for full livery excluding exercise.
This includes ad lib hay, bedding and basic hard feed, turning out, muck out, bed down, hay nets filled, water changed, catching, full groom including rug changes and hoof oil, trimming and bathing, tack cleaning after every ride, horse clean and ready for exercise, poo picking the fields daily, evening checks and skipping out, putting to bed.
I feel I am very reasonable

Oh and I'm not on full livery and never have been.

my best moments with my horse are on the ground .
when i enter his field and he comes cantering to me neighing for no reason other than he loves me as hes never fed treats or hard food . just a kiss on his muzzle :}
and when your sad and yo sit in the field to get away from it all and he comes over to nuzzle you .
they are my bonding priceless moments .
oh and he does assist me in poo picking he poos i pick !!!!

I pay £370 per MONTH lol. I'm in Essex.

Facilities -
Rubber topped well maintainer outdoor school, horse walker, lovely fields with nice small herds, woodchip all-weather turnout paddocks for the worst weather. Big stables.

Adlib (and I mean adlib) haylage/hay and shavings, hard feed and wormers included. Stables are well maintained, nice big beds and rubber matting.

Horses are mucked out, put on the walker if required, turned out, brought in, feet picked, rugs changed. Someone on site all day so if you need them brought in for whatever reason, you just write in the book.

Also if you want the horse bathed/plaited/ready for a show/hunting, you can just write in the book and the grooms will see to them.

I love my yard, I think I get fantastic value for money.
