How much do you pay for grass livery?

Sorry, I know this has been done before.
I am thinking about advertising one livery place. It would be grass (ad lib haylage in winter) with access to a stable, outdoor arena and lots of off-road hacking.
How much would that normally cost and any ideas how find a normal human being rather than a nutter to take it? Is it reasonable to ask for references?
I am in NE Scotland.
 
Never been on livery so can't help with price - but there was a poster on the Scotland board looking for what you are offering - obviously dependent on your location :)
 
When I was in Hampshire, I was paying £80 per month for grass livery with a stable, hay/straw was extra and there was an arena but I never used it as the surface was awful. It was on a working farm and I had a lovely 4 acre field to myself.
I am now in West Sussex and pay about £90 per month for grass livery, no stable this time (although there has been one I can use in an emergency) but a decent arena and fab hacking as yard is at the foot of the south downs. Again, any hay is extra and I do have a nice big field to myself.

I see no reason not to ask for references if you want them for peace of mind! Sounds like a great set up, I don;t know what livery prices are like in Scotland compared to the south of England, but I would imagine around £80 per month (or more if you include hay) would be a good price (to me!) and don't be afraid to ask for a month extra up front as a deposit! :smile3:
 
I've just moved to a new yard as my horse wasn't doing well out but when I was on just grazing I was paying £20 per week with no stable but haylage was always out and use of lovely big outdoor arena, Walker. Yard for tying up and wash/bath area. The grass wasn't fantastic hence needing to move but the facilities on the yard were great for 20 a week.
 
I pay £150 a month for full grass/ retirement livery. Includes checks/ rug changes twice a day, stable if needed, hay, bedding and feed. Hacking is ok but have to go on some country roads to get anywhere and no arena, but that doesn't matter to me as my boy is retired anyway.
I pay for farrier/ worming on top.
 
I've paid between £120 and £160 for grass livery in the Cotswolds.

One yard the price jumped from full grass livery at £140 to DIY grass livery for £160 PLUS £10 to use the school, outrageous.
 
I'm in Buckinghamshire and pay £22.50 plus a share of hay in the winter. Huge field, indoor and outdoor, yard to tie up and tackroom etc. Hackings not great, but its a nice yard. In the North East I paid £10 just for grazing, no facilities at all. Its so dependant on area and demand.
 
£35 per week. Hay in field included in winter, nothing else but great facilities (indoor school, 2 outdoor arenas, lots of competitions on-site).
 
£65 per 4 weeks (Hampshire new forest area) which goes up to £100 when feeding ad lib haylage. Access to yard/tack room etc. round pen and horse walker. No official 'checks' as such but in emergency yard owner will cast an eye. Luckilybwe are quite a close bunch and help each other out daily :-)
 
Where I am its £25 a week mixed herds or own field 3 different schools if you want a stable its £10 extra hay and straw not included but secure tack room and use of kettle included also twice daily check that's Edinburgh
 
Wow really varying prices! Down in Kent, I saw one yard who charges £145 a month DIY grass livery including hay in winter, emergency stable and use of school. Another yard charges £190 full grass livery, no stable, lots of grazing, use of school and good off road hacking. One very basic yard charges £90 a month but no facilities and no electric or running water! Edited to say I think grass livery can be a premium down this way.
 
£110 a month including ad lib haylage in winter. More than happy with paying that for a place where my horse is happy and settled. The real bonus is the hangover and holiday routines mutually agreed with the owner whereby if either of us go away everything stays the same for the horses!Been there three years now and it is complete horsey bliss!
 
Thanks everyone, what a variety of prices! It will be a while before I go ahead with this - just extended the land a little and that needs to be brought into circulation before I do anything. Perhaps I should auction the place once it's ready!
 
£25/ week. Tonnes of space and grass. Haylage put in the field in the winter included in the price. Have use of a stable but would be charged for that if needed to be used for extended periods of box rest etc (includes straw and haylage for light usage)
Good hacking, use of farmland for schooling, cantering etc but no arena
 
£275 per month, average for the ridiculous Surrey hills! Excellent hacking, large sand school, tie up posts, ablib hay/haylage.
 
£1 per day per horse! about 6 acres total over two separate fields. Automatic water and great hacking. No other facilities. I use my old rice trailer as a storage 'unit', and get free hay. I'm sure I could hire an arena if i wanted to from somewhere local as there are yards around, but I privately rent off a farmer - and love it!
 
between 4-7.50 p/w depending on location. Stables etc as well. Though others in the area pay up 10 p/w 15 p/w and 25 p/w
 
Hi I'm in NE Scotland and pay £90 per month. Includes hay/straw/stable/field/Fab off road hacking/small outdoor arena/trailer parking free. Auto water drinkers in field. We also have loads of stubble fields to ride in later in year.

I was £65 per month at last yard. stable and hay and straw to be bought extra if required. Included use of large outdoor arena. Had own field. Water was available at points but if didn't have a long enough hose, then had to use buckets to get water to field.

You have to wonder, with the cost of maintaining anywhere with horses, how anyone makes money out of providing grass livery. With muck disposal and constant fence repairs, harrowing, reseeding etc., etc.
