How much do you pay for hay

SCAREY prices.

We had a very bad first cut and then parts of our county had army worms (which eat everything but the stalk) which wiped out hundreds of acres.

We are importing hay in from the US and out West. At last look prices were averaging:

4 x 5 straw = $30
4 x 5 hay = $85 Last year I was paying $30
950lb Hestons = $190
Small bales (55lbs ish) = $8

Hay at auction is about 15c per lb.

Ignore the fact that the prices are in dollars, I get paid in dollars and money goes out in dollars.

Mine are eating 50% straw, and also hay (alfa/timothy) cubes which are $12 a 50lb bag.

I have 20 horses to feed, even on half rations because the snow hasn't come yet and I still have grass I am opening a new round of hay every 3 days :( the math is frightening.

Hay 2.50 straw 2.00 ,I would pay more than that as the farmer where I keep my horse only does the small bales for me as the cattle have the big bales, he and his wife arre real stars
