Have just been looking into buying in bulk with 4 other horse owners and was wondering who uses what and how much do you pay for them?

I have contacted Bedmax, Platts (Big Flake) and John Latham (White Horse) but was wondering what other makes there were.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

i have paid £7.50 for both bedmax & white horse recently , not bulk orders , & bought from feed merchants , but the ones that tend to be best value in my area

we buy in big bulk, 12 pallets of 48. they were £8.50 per bale in october time and we have just re-ordered at a cost of £7.00 per bale. They were all Bedmax. And they're awful! everyone on the yard hates them!

Thats quite expensive for bulk! I get them for £7 from local feed merchant!

Why dont you like them out of interest? A few of us use them and like them.

I use Bedmax which are horrendously expensive (I pay about a tenner a bag

). However I am contractually obliged to buy them from my YO and she puts her own mark up on them, plus she buys from a local supplier not directly so they already have the supplier's mark up on them too!

I must say I don't like them much either - I don't find them as absorbant as the small flake shavings that I used to use before the supplier ran out of them.

We do like Bedmax. I have just ordered some from CWG at about £6.90 inc VAT. They deliver for free if you spend £175 or more before VAT.

Buy mine from the YO who sells them on to us at cost!! Been on Bedmax at £6.60 per bale but just swapped to White Horse at £5.75 - sounds like I'm getting a bargain :-)

I sometimes get shavings to bulk out the banks of our Aubiose beds. Had to get Bedmax around Christmas and I hated them - the flakes are too big to fall through a fine-tined fork, they will take forever to rot on the muckheap (my back is not up to turning the heap each month, as Bedmax recommend in order to aid rotting), they're not absorbent enough and I certainly wouldn't want a whole bed of them.

I think I just ordered from White Horse - 150 bales at £5.17 per bale. I can't remember the company name though - based near Wakefield? He is only saved in my phone as 'Shavings Man'

black_n_white, you poor thing. Shes a rip off merchant charging £10 a bag ! Thats outragous marking up £3 a bag especially as bedmax are awful, i d feel like leaving although i know its not as easy as that.
