I have been looking around at local instructors, as my current one has some family issues and may not be able to come out to me regularly.
So I was just wondering what would be the 'average' cost per lesson, that people are paying? I'm talking general riding, I have a newish 5 yr old mare that needs bringing on further, and my rusty riding needs some work, our aim would be prelim dressage and confident hacking. I would need the instructor to come to me, as I don't have transport, so have only contacted local people.
What would you expect to pay?

before i got my loan horse, i used to go to a riding school with 2 outdoors, 1 indoor arena with this fancy surface and the poshest stables in the area with all types of horses, buckers, plods, push buttons and ones that took all your strength to hold back. best riding school i had ever been to and i still miss it today, i had pure showjumping group lessons with an instructor who is the best rider i have ever seen, and sure had a talent for teaching people and that cost me £30 an hour for a group lesson, and it was the most expensive around although i thought it was worth it as the quality was just amazing.

as you want to learn different skills than me, if i where you i would pay less than i did, around 20-25 maybe? it depends on the instructor too, i wouldnt pay anything for a rubbish instructor, mine was probably worth more than the 30 he was so good (id reccommend him, but i dont think he travels)

good luck :)

£35 for 45 mins but feels like an hour as he works us so hard. Very, very good instructor. Alot of the ones around here seem to specialise in shouting "lovely" but don't actually help you to improve your riding.

£40 for 45 mins - 1 hour (depending on how Red's going), definitely money well spent though, she is fantastic. It's for a private lesson and she comes to the yard.

I pay £65 private hour and my trainer comes to me - dressage Med. level.

I charge £35 for 99% of my clients unless I need to allow a little extra for fuel to cover the extra distance travelled.

Depends who I have but varies between £20 and £55 an hour. Sadly can't have the expensive ones often but when I do there is a huge difference in my horse. :)
