Im just interested in the prices people pay for having their fields harrowed and rolled. Do you pay by the hour or the acre and roughly how much does it cost?

by the hour - it's about £40 for his time, diesel, wear on the kit and getting it to us. I don't roll (used to Cambridge roll) it's quite damaging to the soil underneath - the harrow has a very heavy bar at the front which knocks all the big divots out

We use a dedicated grass land contractor who has all the latest equipment including a Ryetech harrow which has sprung splines on it.
Including, Harrowing, Over-seeding, Weed killing, striming and hedge cutting we spend about £150 per acre per year.

Over the years I have collected all my own equipment so don't need to anymore, but I as it requires specialist equipment and the contractors are in heavy demand for relatively short periods, I would think Owlie's budget would be a good guideline.

It always amazing me how many people don't harrow/spike/spray/top etc and just expect the grass to keep on giving. The difference in nutritional value (and I mean in the nutrients it delivers not necessarily the calorie content) is amazing. A lot of horse pastures do get very 'horse sick' because they get very compacted and sour.

We also do our own. Have managed to get chains, roller, fertilise spreader, sprayer and quad. Now we know exactly what goes on our fields after being previously robbed by cowboy who disn't kill weeds and suspect didn't apply the liquid feed we paid for!!!
