£75 full set with road nails. Crikey - my farrier seems rather expensive!! He is brilliant though and we've only lost 3 shoes in a year with typical TB feet AND that's only because the stupid horse has stood on himself whilst arsing about. Shoes stay on through the thickest mud out hunting and to me that's what counts.
Not sure the excact cost, I try not too look. My horse is shod every 6 weeks, and total bill is £80-90. This includes road pins(£1 each. stud holes are also £1 each so last summer when I had 8 it was a bit expensive) and also included in the price is £12 travelling and VAT (so its a little cheaper at the mo)
M xx
I should add that my farrier turns up on time on the right day, has do an amazing job with my horses feet and I wouldnt change even if it would be cheaper. I pay a bit more than the other people at my yard but I seem to have a lot less hassle so I think it is worth it.
£50 including road nails, would be £15.00 for a trim if he was unshod....along with that you get the get highly insulted and have to put up with their lude sense of humour!
Great farrier - turns up on time everytime, answers his phone and returns calls, and thanks to his remedial work has helped get my mare back in full time work and 100% sound!
He does a great job, hot shoeing....my only niggle would be he seems to have a faulty watch as his time keeping can be abysmal... over an hour and a half later than booked once
£60 and £55 a re-fit but am expecting it to go up soon as been paying that for ages.
£60 is not at all unreasonable for a set of shoes. Its £10 a week , good value I think ,after all the horsewears them 24/7. if you ride for only 5 hrs per week thats only £2 per ride.
How much is an hours hack at riding school or treking centre these days? I expect around 10 times that.
£60 for a full set and he's going about 8 weeks between visits ATM. He is a shiverer and my farrier doesn't charge any extra for the fact my boy takes longer and can be tricky to do (has trouble lifting one back leg and keeping it up for any length of time). Previous farrier used to charge me £90 "because he's so awkward"!!!!
my farrier is not only fantastic and one of the best farriers ive ever had, but is a really good price imo too, i pay £50 for refit and £60 for full set!!
£72 last time for refits (I think it's £75 otherwise), but he charges for travel, as he comes from over 40 minutes away. I could get them for cheaper, but this is the only farrier who handles both ponies nicely, is happy to come through the summer and let me do them (trims) in the winter/take the shoes off myself if they're too long during the cycle. He's also the only farrier that Henry will eat hay whilst being shod - the others were too bang happy and Henry HATED the nails going in. I pay for that reassurance that I and Henry will have a stress-free shoeing session. I was always SOOOOO uptight before!
I get handmade shoes for mine, my two older horses are done every 5 weeks, farrier is happy to shoe my youngsters (I've two 3 yo atm), and looks after the laminitic pony really well.

Road nails? Do these give them extra grip on the roads? Just a guess, never had any experience of them before.

Exactly that. They have a small tungstan (sp?) tip in the middle of the nail head and it just prevents the foot from slipping. I have one in each shoe as my boy hasn't a clue where is feet are let alone that he has 4 of them!
Comes bang on time, phone calls either answered or returned promptly. Kind to the ponies, not a miserable grumpy old sod to humans. I have no plans to look elsewhere for someone cheaper...
It was £75 in Aberdeen and it was rubbish! This was for a farrier coming to a yard on a regular set day too to shoe lots of horses. No idea why it was so expensive. The farriers up there are so bad I know one livery who boxes her horse down to Fife, a round trip of 170 miles, every 6 weeks to get him shod there! Theres a shortage of farriers and all the ones I used up there were rubbish, shoes did'nt fit, hooves were odd shapes, feet were trimmed so pointed that your shoes would only stay on for 3 or 4 weeks...awful. And still £75, £79 with stud holes.
i charge £50 for a set and £45 for refits
£30 for a set with refits being £25 and trims at £15
no extra charge for road nails or studs or fuel is applied so my prices are all inlcusive.
