How much do you pay for small bales of hay?

So £6 is at the very top end of the price range. I can't understand how it's so expensive.

its more expensive to bale that way and harder to hide it if its fusty. I don't begrudge it-year before last I was paying £4.50 from same guy but it's always quality and he kept me supplied all through that horrid spring when it was running out everywhere. I used to buy in large bales-alot of farmers where I was seemed convinced it could withstand days of heavy rain and I'd have to chuck loads of it. This supplier also does nice, dry haylage at £5 per bale which I get in for really bad weather.

£3.
Choice of this or last year's. Includes delivery.

Local feed place charges £5, or £40 for the really big bales equivalent to 10/12 small bales.

At livery yard used to pay £25 for the middling big bales (Hestons??) from YO.

Oxfordshire.

Personally, I wouldn't buy hay off sites like gumtree etc.
Anyone who makes decent hay won't even have to advertise, they'll have customers come back year after year who will then go on to tell other people about them...

My yard makes haylage which is included in the livery - but I feed hay so have to buy it in on top. I can't store loads though (have to use my trailer) so usually get about 6 bales at a time.

I was paying £3 for last years meadow hay (collected but from farm in the village where I live so very handy!). The tack shop sells really good meadow hay for £5 if I am desperate, but other than that I can pick it up for £3-£4 at various farms in the area. This is Leics/Rutland borders.

I pay £6.50 per bale from YO who buys from thier own supplier. Very good quality, never had any left and they are fussy.
Can buy and collect from local supplier but it's usually not so good and gets left..prices range from £5 to £7.
We are in Essex.
