heya as my parents are letting buy a horse for the first time i was winderung how much it cost you per month for feeding general managment shoeing etc my dad wants to no roughley how much xx

hehe thanks guys my riding lessons have gone up to $20 a week so my mum and dad have agreed in the long it would be cheaper

Stable & Grazing, Hay & Feed, Insurance, Farrier every 6 weeks. Vet bills not covered by insurance (Under excess limit) & unforseen expenses. Depending where you are in the country you could do it on around £300 per month providing you are on DIY. Full Livery will bemuch more expensive.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that because you have a horse you won't need riding lessons....you will because you will need to know how to school the horse properly & train it to get the best from the animal. Without adequate knowledge you may well run into problems.

Good Luck in choosing a horse....& that's a whole different set of questions!!

As everyone says riding lessons are much much cheaper. With DIY livery the cost is around £300. Then there's the responsibility - it effects you whole life. Make sure your parents understand. I was not a horsie person and have bought my children horses. Well I'm horsie now - no choice. Pulling trailers once a week, organising farriers and vets, ordering in feed and sorting out insurance and riding lessons. It's a lot of work!

my diy livery costs £120 a month bedding and hay included, shoes every 5 weeks £55.
but vet bill atm or costing me a fortune.
i also have 2 others out on grass livery that i pay £10 a week each for.
so if you got a horse/ pony that could be kept out 24/7 which quite a few people on here have got then it would be cheaper than your lessons.

How much!!

What do you get for £250 a month??? Or do you mean with everything else aswell?

For one of my horses, the ridden one, it's approximatly:
£100 for livery,
£30- £50 on food and hay
£45 for feet
and if I spread my cost of injections, worming and teeth over the year... £200 / 12 = errr.... bear with me on my maths... somewhere around £16 a month...
So £211... I haven't forgtotten anything have I?

Lessons will be far cheaper than having a horse, plus you only have to worry about riding, not all the care and vet bills etc.

I have 2 but on average per horse per month I reckon to keep one one costs me £250-£300, with DIY livery, horses living out.
