i find this time of year so hard to ride! am managing once maybe twice a week at best with snow, ill toddler and having to work (have no school or lights)

just wondering how often others make it and whether you feel guilty if you dont. My friend does and trys to ride every day whereas I sort of go for an easy life and semi turn him away for the winter as i cant school him.

Hi,
I'm a once/twice a weeker too I'm afraid - would love to ride more but lack of lights/school and full time job put paid to that!!! Never mind, clocks will soon change.......................

Hi ,
I ride everyday (evenings obviously during the week) , fortunately we have an indoor school at the yard... unfortunately the turn out is not great and mine is lucky if he gets 2 hours a day... and that is only if it does not rain, so I have to do something with him every day otherwise he is stuck in the box all day

i wish i had a school, he so needs some school work, we are pottering round the lanes and i have noticed that he now responds to me saying "come on fatty" to trot rather than me using my seat or legs! no dressage for me soon!

I try and ride 5 days a week, we have a floodlit outdoor school so i can ride anytime, but i still need motivation to get going, once shes tacked up and i'm on though i'm fine. !

I'm only riding at weekends (weather dependant) but we have all day turnout so dont feel like a mean mummy. Have got loads of time off over xmas so will ride nearly everyday

Same as chesnut mare, mine is getting worked 5 days a week at the mo, and prob 1 or two of tose sessions will be on the lunge. Try to hack at least once a week too.

I try and ride 5-6 times a week. I have a school with flood lights but when its freezing i need about as much motivation as he does to move. Ide much rather go up muck out feed and get in the warm!

I also have friends to ride at the moment due to her being pregnant so its even more of a chore!

Not as often as I would like!

I have a a foal that needs a lot of work and a mare due to pop in february, not to mention a OH who wants some of my time, a house to prepare for sale and a wedding to plan!!!

Needless to say riding has been put on the back burner for now.

I have advertised locally for someone to come and ride her for me to keep her ticking over but no one seems interested unless they are getting paid!

I would have jumped at the chance to ride someone elses horse when I was a horseless teenager.......!!!!

i am lucky to ride at weekends now, we have two outdoor schools, non have lights though and its dark before and after work, we do have another indoor school but YO uses if for storage during summer months and still hasn't emptied it, and as im the only livery now, i don't think he's too bothered about clearing it out just for me. Fingers crossed.

I ride every morning before work - always hacking. We are very good at riding in the dark! Horse goes hunting every Saturday so has Sunday off and one Tuesday every two weeks so has Weds off after that.

I don't get to the yard until 6.30pm in the week, but we thankfully have a floodlit arena.
I try & ride both mine 4 days a week & the YM hacks them both out once a week, so that means they get ridden 5 days a week each.
I do them both at the weekend & then school 1 each evening, plus I thankfully give myself 1 day off a week.

I have to plan at the start of each week, what I'm doing when, especially if I have to work late

& as long as I do, it seems to work ok.

Ditto what others say.... sometimes it's a struggle especially if it's windy & raining, but once I'm on I'm fine.

Mine gets schooled twice a week, hacked two or three time a week (dependant on weather). Semi-retired pony gets one lunging, one in-hand hack and sometimes ridden once.

I ride 5 to 6 times a week. I’m lucky to work where the horses are kept so can pop out in the day. We also have a flood light on our school so can ride in the dark but don’t that often.

I get a bit nappy in the winter.
This morning I thought about riding, then realised it was freezing so brought horses in for their breakfast and bolted towards the field to do poo-picking.
On the way to work I napped twice at the turning to my house then ducked sideways, whipped round and went in a shop to buy chocolate.
Winter is not working for me.

Ours are out 24/7 and no flood lighting anywhere in sight. We ride every weekend, but I finish work a week before Christmas, so plenty of long rides on the horizon, come rain or shine.

weekends only as horses at home. work and children and dark by the time im home. tend to just keep them ticking over and still prefer this to having facilities at a yard.

Merlin lives out 24/7 and does not need to be uber fit as he does hardly any competing and deffo no hunting!!!

I use winter as a time to relax the riding and only ride if I really feel like it

We have absolutely no facilities so no choice to hack.... but then I hate schooling anyway

I rode last monday but havent ridden since..... It really doesnt appeal to me to get wet, cold and miserable and Merlin is more than happy to stay out with his little shetland friend

I do obviously go and check him and feed him though

I am on twice a week because of work and no lights or school etc...we are all road hacking here too. I do make the effort to ride both days though...unless it is icy or snow on the roads, but wind, hail, rain etc I will be out as my boy needs all the work he can get to stop him pileing on the weight. He is out 24/7 though on a good sized bare paddock so at least he can exercise himself a bit that way. Roll on the light mornings and I will be out every day before work at 5am!

I don't have any sand school facilities and traffic too busy during the week. I have three horses, a yearling, 3yr old that I am breaking and working with once/twice a week and my 7yr old who I hack out once a week and ride in my field once sometimes twice a week and feel sooooooooo guilty!
They are all turned out during the day but my motivation to get back to competition is getting less and less due to work load.

I ride 5/6 days a week. I hack 3 times in the week which does mean getting up at 5am to hack before work (it's too dark afterwards) and then I school in the semi-floodlit arena the other 3 times.

Yes it is hard, but I have a youngster I a) don't want to get bored from going in the school 5 times a week and b) don't want to sit on a bomb if I only rode at weekends!

I usually ride about 5 times a week, I don't get up to the yard until 7pm after work so it can be a struggle. If it is really wet or foul I will give George a day off and just spend time with him. Thankfully he doesn't go loopy if not ridden for a few days.

I have 2 horses (well, my husband is meant to ride one) but my husband can only do weekends and I work shifts/casual supply teaching, so I can ride at other times if I want. Without a school it is twice a week per horse, whoever rides them. With a school, it's about 5 times a week for each horse.

Summer every day.

ive got 3 horses on diy plus i work 8.30-5 full time
one horse is rising 3 and not doing any work yet
the 18yr is in light work-i school/hack 2-3 times a week
the 5yo is in full work and competition and she gets ridden/lunged/hacked everyday-she has a day off every 10days or so depending on the weather.
just have to get up early and have no social life!lol
