Ive just worked out how much I spend per month on Minnie and Im looking at nearly £400 - hope the husband does not read this! This is for the day to day care etc and does not include the extras like grooming essentials.

Averaging it out over the year, including new tack/parts, grooming items etc etc etc. I would say it's probably in the region of £100. With livery then £200/£250.

Expensive hobby!!!

Not much atall.

one bale of easy bed, a bag of cool mix and a £20 entry fee. Dad pays petrol although he is one of 5, so I guess £10 max.

Deffo. under £50. Is that bad....

Oh when we go to the owrld that month will cost twice as much as he did himself, about £3000!

Actually, reading your posts, I don't feel too bad now...I seem to keep mine quite cheaply per horse....but they're DIY...and live out so I don't use bedding.

When I had her at home she probs only cost about £30 a month during the summer & because she is in overnight some nights in the winter then about £50. That's including all shoeing, worming, tack/rug repairs etc etc. Then again, we were happy hackers when I kept her at home as there wasn't much going on where we lived.

Keeping at home is soooooo much cheaper!! Also didn't get to so many comps (held regularly at yard through summer) so no comp fees...

are you on manage-my-horse website? i store all my information there and I dare not look at my expenses page! my dad would freak if he saw it so i make sure I never leave my password about. Mum knows obviuosly but would kill me if he found out. LOL.

in the feed section you can put in what your horse eats how much he eats and what your bag cost you and it tells you what he costs a day a week a month and a year instantly. We've added our haylage, bedding etc to this so it tells us everything, bit frightening. We changed feed last month and used it to tell us what our new costs would be. Pretty clever really.

I started keeping records on managemyhorse.com in Janaury. It was £600 + in Janaury (can't recall what extra expense brought it to that) and £540 in February when I spent £68 on a personalised freezemark. It hurts to work it out, but it does curb my spending (yes those are the curbed spending figures). I have stopped buying nice things just because I fancy them because I know I'll be writing it down and it forces me to think about it!

)) see you on there!

We have four, £87 farrier, BHS membership £8, no bedding a they live out, haylage/hay this winter at say £30 for seven months, feed is just what is split or out of date at the shop, if we didn't own a feed merchants it would be £9 per month for one bag of Hifi Lite. Don't compete, and don't buy much in the way of tack, rugs etc, say £20 per month would cover it. Worming say £23 per month, we have our own field so no livery costs. Back/teeth/saddle fitting/vet again £20 per month. Grand total for four horses £188 - God I think that's shocking!

*tootles off to place sale ads for two horses in Horsemart*

About £400 for livery and farrier in the winter months and £150 in the summer months. thats not counting insurance, vet bills etc. Wish i hadn't added it up!!

I know Minnie is expensive but shes worth every penny I cant imagine life without her but I can imagine life without going out, no designer clothing etc.

I havent told the husband yet that I want a new saddle for showing yet - ive lost a lot of weight and the saddle that I had made for her previously is too big for me!

Thats another reason I love Minnie since having her Ive lost over 4 stone.

Who needs diets - get a horse you cant afford food and the exercise is good for you!
