Just a fun thread to see how much the average horse owner spends on horsey extras.

This doesn't include wormers, vaccinations etc. just material like headcollars or treats etc.

I used to be awful for spending when it came to tack, I could easily spend several hundred pounds a month on horsey stuff.

I've got a lot better now and tend to ask myself if I need or want, which usually helps me not to spend.

I think I have spent about £50 in total in the last 6 months (one rug, bottle of fly spray and bottle of mane spray).. I can't believe it !

:)

I am really bad at buying things for my boys :-/ they are very spoilt and i have often seen myself go without nice things just so my horses are kitted out in the best of stuff haha! I'm a little bit obsessed and i wouldn't have it any other way!

I don't have the money so he has the same headcollar I bought when I got him over 9 and a half years ago (lead ropes have had to be renewed over the years). Much of his grooming kit the same, I think I've renewed one brush but all the rest are originals, including my hoof pick. I've always had less than 10 rugs probably across that time if that and that includes turnouts, 2 stable rugs and a fleece - turnouts only had to be replaced when they had too many patches and were not staying waterproof. I've had one new bridle since the bridle he came with in that time too but reins had to be replaced as got worn. Had plastic girths so on my 3rd one of those as edges split. But still got some of the numnahs I first got him too though in places a bit threadbare at the edges. I enjoyed stocking up with things that I needed when I got him but it has lasted me well and he knows no different as to how old or worn it is. So now it's just essentials like fly spray in the summer or heel potions if needed for mud fever. Even if I had more money to spend on lots of other things I wouldn't unless he actually needed them. He probably does have a bag of Spillers treats a month. All my costs for him are just to pay for livery, hay, chaff/lo-cal feed, shoes, teeth, back appts and ad hoc vet appts as and when needed.

nothing most of my tack and rugs are years old but in good nick and if it isnt a question of life and death they dont get it. Dont get me wrong they get the best of everything they need and I look after my stuff but I am not a horsey tat collector

Unfortunately I am a shop-a-holic. This month I've spent about £300 on bits and bobs for them. That does include a new horsey hoodie for me too thou.

All the local tack shop people know me :( one even knows my post code off by heart for the reward scheme. I need to go to SA meetings ....

I'm in the shop a holic camp too
I buy two lickits a month
Two bags of treats
Two bags of carrots

In past two months have bought two rugs new tendon n fetlock boots new leather head collar new nummah lol

I actually can't help it . .
But I only purchased my new bf in October so hoping I calm down soon lol

too much.hundreds easily.

but, why not, i earnt it, ill spend it-im very good at budgeting but not very good at saving, i wont spend what ive not got but if its there, i HAVE to spend it!!!!

that said, i need to start saving for entry fees next year because at 500-800 euros a pop, if i do even one CDI its rather more than the £45 a time i currently pay!!!!!

I need to give myself a slap - I keep buying stuff including my most recent purchase of an equilibrium massage pad. Some might argue that this is "necessary" however we managed just fine before we had one but after seeing another livery using it I had to have one. I dont have much self control when it comes to spending money and it doesnt feel right going into the tack shop and not buying something. I have a weird obsession with buying myself socks - everytime I go into the tack shop they have new socks with funny horse pics on them and I keep buying them - my OH is going nuts cos my drawers at home wont close cos I have too many pairs haha!

I am also a sucker for products that claim to make the mane more silky or the feathers easier to wash! I am a salespersons dream - really need to rein it in a bit as I am supposed to be saving for a trailer - oopsy :-/

I'll buy it if I need it or if its cheap :p I love to take advantage of other peoples tack rooms full of unnecessary bits and bobs if they are going cheap.

Well not much normally but this year have gone off the rails

Clippers, 2 new rugs, saddle (second hand) sabre bridle (second hand) lead rope, stable wraps (new but second hand) girth, stirrup leathers, magnetic rug, um think that's all :-0 so no more spending on extras for some time

Have bought three headcollars since buying my yearling. The first one, he ate the throatlatch clip. The second one, he outgrew, so I gave it away. The third should do him for a while I hope!

Numerous bags of carrots or minty treats.

Three rugs. Again he has outgrown one already, and I have come to realise that he really doesn't need a stable rug at all, so I sold that.

A very nice bridle and breaking bit for next year, when I hope to get him used to such things. Won't be backing him any time soon, but do hope to do some light trapping and showing in hand. Fellow livery has offered the loan of their spare harness and a small trap. Guess I will need a nice tweed jacket, etc, but am waiting until closer to the time. I did invest in some new jodphurs, but my old ones are worn out!

I hate shopping...

As little as possible. This year I've bought a new set of competition boots for Monty as his old ones were falling apart and as he's not mine I want to mitigate every risk as much as I can; a new show jacket as my old was was so tight on me I could barely move:o. They also had a new snuggy hood each as they were half price and they'll need them sooner or later. I think that's it - and that's a lot more than most other years.

Archie's still in the rugs I bought him when he arrived 9 years ago (two middleweight turnouts, two lightweight turnouts, one stable and a cooler) - more patches than rugs now (hence a spare outdoor of each weight) but they're of a quality that I'd struggle to find now so I don't want to buy new ones. I have 5 numnahs between the two of them - 2 everyday ones each and one white saddlecloth they share for dressage.

the most extravagant thing I've spent money on that wasn't 100% necessary was a spare bridle for Archie's gag (for exciting work) it doesn't get used often but it's so much easier than swapping a bit and reins over.
