How much do you spend on training?

I used to have two lessons at £35 per month from a fellow of BHS who's fab. Haven't had one now from him for over 3 months due to work commitments and our usual venue having strangles. My dressage has now dropped to scores of 40+

I did try someone else in the meantime but she didn't help.
Hopefully I will be seeing him soon. It's money well spent IMO
If you can afford it go for it

My mother annoys me too much - she always tells me what i am doing wrong but cannot come up with enough suggestions in how to sort it! I cannot stand her watching me do anything as she annoys me so much!

haha actually, that's all my mum ever does is tell me what i'm doing wrong.. i'm just about to go ride two more, and i'm making her video me so i can see what it is i'm ment to be doing wrong.

HAHA nothing serious, I just think I would like to have ago at BD, BSJA and hunting and i cannot afford it all.
Atm having to decide to run because of ground conditions is doing my head in. Hes only 5 and has loads of time. If we get to run saturday Ill be happy. Then we can have some fun. I also would love some decent training and seeing as ive only actually had 5 lessons on him since last October!!!! i would likea few more.

HAHA, no he was a good boy at the weekend.

Umm, I would like a go, hes had some good results and very nice comments this season. I enjoy dressage and seeing as addington is only down the road plus nigel taylor is going to be running some this winter too.
Plus we are BSJA members and have only ever managed 2 shows argh!

Hunting starts next month and thats expensive too - thats not to say i wont get itchy feet and run him in october lol

Not enough. I don't class myself as a particularly good rider, and I really think I should be having far more lessons. However I DO class myself as totally and utterly skint! If I manage my money well I should be able to have one lesson a month (will usually be jumping as that's my competitive discipline with Cookie) and one competition per month - so £20 for a lesson against about £10-15 entry fees, plus cost of transport. I may be able to just about afford to go to a Robert Pickles dressage clinic before the end of the year as well. I'd love to be able to go 'training' in different places with different people. Then again, I'm not up to the standard where I can teach myself and my horse until I hit a specific problem - I'm still at the stage where I have problems all the time! I do think though that I did improve a LOT when I was having regular lessons while I didn't have my own horse. But I'd rather now spend my money competing Cookie while I can, than improving him and then letting him go back to his owner full time next year. Maybe with my new horse I'll spend more time and money on training and lessons. It's certainly never been the case that I enjoy competing more, as I really enjoy lessons (and they're less stressful than competitions!)

I spoil myself, have 2 dressage lessons at £35 each & 2 sj lessons at £40 per month, would have 1 of each per week but defo can't afford it!!

My training sessions cost 35 pounds and that is witha small tour dressage trainer and 3* event rider. I would happily pay more if worth it but up here we dont have anyone like you lucky people down south.

Not enough, I would love to be able to have continous lessons with a good dressage trainer such as Gareth Hughes but I am only ever at home during uni holidays.
I have been having 1 lesson a week for the past couple of months with just an average instructor and to begin with it was going well but recently I feel I am going backwards and my BD marks really are not improving so I have stopped having lessons with her.

PG: I really don't think you are mad at the amount of money you spend as you want to get the top on a fab horse.

I spend about £220 a month when the horse is at home and a lot more when horse is staying at trainers as of course there is a livery fee then too.

Every penny I earn goes on my horse, luckily my husband is very understanding but Im not sure he knows the exact figures!!

I spend £30 a fortnight on stressage training and 1 free SJ training with Accredited BE trainer 'cos I organise the clinic!!!! (only during winter months)
I try and get 1 SJ a month in summer with other trainer but to be honest it is difficult fitting it in with them competing.

I would love to do more training?Clinics etc but trying to get good people and venues 'up north' is tricky!!

I've recently started having weekly dressage lessons at £30 a time, they're worth every penny but my mum won't be able to afford them weekly for much longer so soon it will be more like monthly. Before that though I've had very few lessons and not for about 4 years, when I started riding Shadow I was 11 and she was 6 and we were both inexperienced, since then we've managed to jump and be placed BSJA and in Feb we came 9th/32 at Grasshoppers without being told my riding was awful so I don't think we've done too badly on our own. If I had loads of training I wouldn't be able to afford to compete.

I am very lucky at the moment as the owners of the horses I ride pay for my training... I reckon if it where all added up I probably have upto the value of £200 per month!!

It really helps though, and I quite like the fact that I get to train with a few instructors who have slightly different methods, it means that I can take useful things away from all the lessons!

I have had times in the past where my training was non existant, and I tried to learn a lot from just making mistakes on all sorts of different horses!

I have fortnightly lessons with Jo Graham at £35, and fortnightly ones with Spencer at a clinic near to where I stable Grace at £65. So, if I did actually have these every month (sometimes they are not available etc etc) it would be £200, but it is very rare I have four a month.

Not now dol is home, but when the new one comes we will go back to peter!

WHen i was doing juniors we went to peter once sometimes twice a week. (£50 a lesson) and then training with Henk and Jennie once a month.
The training was necessary, couldnt have competed at that level without it!
