Just curious and i want to compare...

How much do you spend on your horse/s monthly?!

I have one 16.1hh, sports horse gelding that i spend about:
Livery-£163 + occasional turnouts (£1 each)
Shoes-£65
Feed-£20
Insurance-£27

And atm back needs doing and teeth and jabs so some extra :)

Lets hear yours....
 
I worked it out when budgeting for winter and it costs me approx £350 per month in winter all in and about £200-£250 in summer.

I put £500 in a separate 'horse' account each month now. In the winter this leaves me £150 per month for shows, lessons and extras such as saddle check, back ect. In the summer I have more to spend on shows as he lives out and is cheaper to keep. Any left overs goes on buying new rugs and bits and pieces :).
 
Per month

£40 field rent
£10 hay (£30 every 3 months)
£12 shavings
£40 feed
£25 shoes (£50 every 2 month)

Then jabs once a year, dentist & back done twice a year.

Daughter competes nearly every weekend so can spend upto £100 per week on entry fees & diesel too :(
 
I have a 16.1 18 year old tb gelding, and I spend:

£80 month livery
£54 Feed month - £24 (2 bags alpha a) + £30 (one bag topspec conditioning cubes & 1 bag topspec comprehensive balancer) + £20 occasionaly if I buy any supplements as he's a veteran. Wow im spending a lot on feed! :eek:
£65 farrier every 7/8 weeks
£6 per bale hay, getting through 4 a month atm, when he's in at night will be probably 6 - 8 so £36 monthly on hay
insurance - £25 a month
lessons - spend between £20 - £80 a month on lessons, depending on how many i have
think that's everything. ooh and when he comes in soon will have shavings as well, that's about £7 a week.

Total of about £260 - £300 per month in winter? And then extras like buying spare numnahs or wormers or going to a competition. So expensive but he's worth it :D

So approx £750 a month on my 4 year old oldenburgh.
 
I have a 14.1 pony on DIY livery and everything (stable/grazing, shoes, insurance, jabs, teeth, physio, bedding, minor feed - carrots/chaff, one supplement, all averaged out across the year) comes to c.£270 per month. He's a good doer so I have very low feed costs. Given up lessons at the moment as can't afford them. I probably buy a new lightweight turnout rug every year as they get trashed but not always. He still has the same stable rug and fleece I got him 7 years ago and both going strong still. Oh and one £18 belly/bib clip per winter. His costs per month are less than my car costs averaged out across the year due to the ridiculous cost of diesel at the moment and the annual service or MOT bits needing done!

To much!! I'm keeping him and me on a student budget :eek:.

He's not actually that expensive to keep
livery is £20 a week
bedding is £5 a week
hay I'm not sure on still trying to find some so got some hayledge for now
he doesnt have shoes and as we do loads of road work he only needs trimming every 12 weeks or so but he gets checked when ever the farrier is here. So thats £20 every 12 weeks
His insurance is my present from my parents :D

I dont want to add it up because it will be more than I can afford but he is definatly worth it and it will go up when we start competing again after his break.
 
I reckon my two cost me at least five hundred pounds a month in winter which is really far more than i can afford. Which is why BH will be for sale come spring, assuming Nits is mended enough to ride!

2 are on assisted diy so turn out every morning - 200 each
field for yearling - 60
feed for all 3 - 60
bedding-50
hay - 50 (big round bales)
farrier - 60 each for the two horses and 30 for yearling to be trimmed if needed!
shows when we are competing allow about £100

but me and my mum split all the costs :D

or £210 ish a month

altho she is having back and teeth check soon so add £60 devided by 12 lol and entry fees. but then i sell her poo for 50p a bag and make £10 a week
so actually in the summer she is free.

forgot to mention she is a 16hh sport horse mare.
she is £400 a year insurance but i got it as a presant from mum this year so it doesnt count

Wow some people spend fortunes!!!!

Mine per month

£130 livery
£60 hay
£60 woodchip
£55 services
£25 feed
£60 every 6 wks shoes
£25 horsebox insurance

so min £415 without entry fees to shows and diesel in the lorry, oh and trips to the saddlery :rolleyes:

Then just jabs, wormers, teeth etc etc when needed

No wonder I had to sell my other horse - I dont know how I ever afforded 2!

I budget for £600 pm, the rest is spent on lessons and any bits and bobs we need.
 
Not *that* much, especially given that I'm in an expensive area.

Per month:
Livery - £90 per month.
Straw - I usually get through one bale, so about £15.
Hay - At the moment, I think about £20 per month as large square bale will last me about 2-4 months, depending on time of year and is £50.
Hard feed - about £1.60 in chaff as one bag of Hi-Fi light will last for about 6 months (in fact, it lasts longer but I have to throw it away as past its best!) and a bag of high fibre nuts is about £5 a bag and will last about 2 months
Lessons - £50 as we usually have two hour private lessons a month, but sometimes we have one a week.
Insurance - £25.

Regular extra's that last longer than a month is a general vitamin and mineral supplement, barefoot trimming at £45 usually every six weeks. We *touch wood* rarely need to see any one like vets or physiotherapists or dentists as bar jabs & bi/annual check ups he is pretty easy to keep. He has a chaser clip and is out naked a lot of the time - he tends to just need a rug on in the field if very, very cold or wet - and doesn't wear rugs in the stable unless very cold.

The only other big extra I can think of is that I pay to have off road hacking, but that is annual payment - and worth every penny

He certainly doesn't go without though & I could keep him more cheaply than I do, if I had to.
 
o i forgot wormers. add £45 a year

seriously some of you spend a small fortune. some horses obviously like eating diamonds or something xx
 
Livery for two £70 per week. Bedding and hay £40 per month. Feed £50 per month. Lessons £25 per week. They're both barefoot and get their feet trimmed every 6-8 weeks depending on the amount of growth £60 for both. I'm just over £500 for basic costs on a diy yard but probably spend around £800 plus by the time I buy stable licks, new numnah's, matching head collars etc!!
 
DIY Grass livery for 2: £96
Shoes every 6 weeks for one: £70
Trim every 12 weeks for one: £30
Insurance for 2: £52

So one month: £218
Every second month: £248

My hay is bought in summer, dental etc is also all done then.
£300 a month, pays for all ponies yearly requirements although at the moment I'm keeping some money back from them to pay for a trailer in spring and also my towing test :)

Jeeezzz i dread to think...

£175 livery per month (full livery excluding feed)
£15 feed (my boy is easy and just has hi fi and vits at mo)
£40 front shoes (every 8 weeks)
£28 insurance

I have only had him 2 months and he's my first horse so im a little spend happy at the moment for new stuff for him!!
 
Per month for both of My Tb geldings.

£100 for grass liverly
£60 every 6 weeks for 2x front sets and trims behind.
£50 for 2 huge bails of hay
£30 for sugar free alphla and spillers condition mix
 
I spend about £250 to £300 a month but just one question those of you paying £30 a month insurance who do you insure with?? Mine is £50 and I've only got him insured as a happy hacker / pony club horse!!! Help!

£7.00 per bale of hay in summer which he doesn't eat a lot of

£10-15 farrier every 8-10 weeks (barefoot)

I pay for livery, hay/haylage and anything else I want to buy him, mum pays for feed and bedding.
Any extra money I earn goes towards lessons, new saddle fund and general stuff to spoil him with.
 
I have 6, I keep them at home so don't need to worry about livery fees and none of them are shod. However in winter 4 of them need to be stabled 24/7 so that's a lot of hay and bedding.

And I've just bought an Ifor Williams trailer that I'm paying off monthly.

I don't even want to tally everything up, and I'm unemployed too. Christ knows how I do it...
 
My mum has 6-7 horses which are kept on 24/7 turnout, and are not shod. So in effect this saves a lot of money.


On average per annum she would spend


Farrier: $1 700 pa
Worming: $600
Vet: $1 500
Tack - Rugs etc: $500
Feed: $3 600-4 000

and then after that lessons, entry fees, memberships and any extra so probably easily $10 000 AUD a year.

If you want to factor into the equation property holding costs, then add another $40 000 AUD a year.
