I have own land and stables and keep 2 horses and one yearling.

I do feed the yearling the same amount as the horses to ensure good bone growth etc etc.

So here are my costs per month.

Shavings: £60.00
Alfa Orginal: £32.00
Sugar beet: £10.00
Pasture mix: £32.00
Hay: £42.00
Feet done every eight weeks £120.00 so I will half that.

Total £236.00

This is winter months only.

In the summer, nothing but shoes. Have acres of grass and really dont need to feed them, even in hard work.

So summer months £60.00

Yearly costs: £1952.00.

Well every month is different here; but I have worked out that each of my horses I own costs me between 600 - 1,000 per year to keep.

Ha, I would HATE to think. Hundreds. Shows alone can cost me a fortune. especially eventing season - thats about £60 gone on ONE class entry fee alone! BSJA costs a fortune as well.

I think feed probably costs me £150 a month. They get through about 2 bales of hay a day so that £3 a day as well. Farrier usually costs about £80 each time. Look, I dont want to go any further or I might cry!!

I have a horse diary, which I put in what I have done regarding exercise etc, teeth, shoes, wormers etc and I put in everything that I spend on the main month page.
When I add it all up, its quite surprising, it ranges from £350 - £450 a month which includes just £90 DIY livery.
But this does include lessons and entry fees, saddlery etc. I must admit that I spend £50 on a set of shoes for my horse every 7 weeks but I wouldn`t dream of spending more than £20 on a pair for me.
