Earn. I know it's a rude thing to ask hence me doing it as a poll.

I finish uni soon and it has got me all paniced about "joining the real world" so to speak. About being able to look after my horses, buy a house ect! eeeeeeeek!

And if you earn more than 40k, what do you do?!!! lol
 
Erm last year it was £3251.47!!

But I am a full time student and am only meant to do 12-15 hours a week!!
 
My mum earns 40k and my mums boyfriend earns £40k+

And they say they can't afford to get me a pony!

I'm at uni, and earn nothing as I don't have a job, well am employed by the uni for their Open days and get paid for the hours I work, gives me a couple of quid for a drink!!!
Dad earns over 70k and mum earns around 20k, so they help pay for whatever my student loan doesn't cover. I'm one of the lucky ones but still feel guilty!

After uni, god knows what I'm going to do! So thats why I went to scotland, extra year at uni, extra time to think about what I want to do with my life!!
 
I earn £27, OH earns £65, we are both in our 20's...

To talk about living in the real world....dont get me started! We would like to buy a house, nothing flash, just a 3 bed thing. We have got a 10% deposit, can only get a morgage for around £330k...which we would stuggle to repay unless we only repayed the interest...and in our area, £330k doesnt buy you much. You might get an ex council house. I find it sooooo frustrating. We are now looking to move to France...which would mean we could keep our flat over here, rent it, buy a small studio flat for OH to live in when he is working, and have a decent house for the money we can afford.

We woudl like kids but cant afford them. And a dog, but we both work so much it wouldnt be fair! I have my horse and he plays golf, we drive nice cars, but it is such a struggle!

I hate the fact we have both worked our arses off, continue to do so, and still cant afford to live in our own country! GRRRRRRR!

OK and BREEEEEEAAAATHHHHEEEE.
 
I earn about 22k, im 22 and im a full time nanny.

I was earning 30k in london but i hated it there so moved back to wales.

My partner is a trainee plumber so hes not earning as much, around £16k but when he qualifies he'll be on about £28k+ and hopefully setting up his own business so i can be a 'kept woman!' LOL!

We cannot afford to buy a house in our area, espec if we want to try more on the outskirts or with any land your looking at a minimum of £250,000. So we rent in the outskirts which is stupidly cheap (random i know!) and our horses are in livery about 5 mins away.

My god FF, what jobs do you do? I can only dream of being offered a mortgage for 330k!! -and in your 20s! Lucky things!

I earn over £40k. I am an accountant and although I like the people I work with and my job is OK I really don't want to be an accountant stuck in an office and commuting 3 hours a day.

I kind of fell into it when I left Uni. I would advise anyone to find out what you really want to do, and try and work in that area rather than going for the money cos 20 years later you feel stuck and it is difficult to make a change!

Totally agree but do wonder if that is because I earn a good salary. Often wonder how I would feel doing a job I love but struggling for money constantly.

Guess its a catch 22
 
you are right Rambo, it is a nightmare.

I am a PA in Television and OH works in Film doing the lights I used to work in film, which is how we met!

Its great being offered the money but as we live so close to London it is really hard to get a nice house...

Remember they are average prices....I have grown up around these areas, property keeps rocking up. It is a complete nigjtmare.
 
I'm a teacher, just new to profession so earn 21,000 and husband is on 45,000 basic with 15,000 potential commission. Even so cannot afford house we would like because we bought at the wrong time. Have a 3 bed semi in not a great area - 3 bed = 1 o.k size room and 2 you can't swing a cat in. Feel sorry for those ppl still at school atm (like my cousins) with news that houses prices to start rising badly again this year

Im a lady of leisure LOL but my partner is self employed, earns about 50k a year.
We cant get on the property ladder either, prices have quadrupled here in the last four years!

4 years ago you could get a 4 bed detached house with a double garage, 2 ensuites etc etc for £60k, no they are actually close to £300k, so more than quadrupled!

If we were older we would be laughing as we would already be on the property lader, Im 23 and OH is 26.
 
My parents as I have allready have a good combined salary but they are trying to buy a house for themselves as Dad is in the process of coming out the RAF, ok so he has 1000 days! but they are struggling. They would love to buy a house down here, Berks area but the prices are just way tooo high.
In the end they are going to move to the North of Scotland where we used to live and are going down the route of having a house built for them, if the council will agree!
Am dreading coming out of uni and having to find somewhere to work and Live!!
 
Well, I earn just over £25k at the mo, but this will increase in the future as I'm currently in the process of re-training.

I agree totally with ClareMc that you shouldn't base a career choice on earning potential... but you do have to balance effort on your part with the reward you will gain. 'Reward' can take many forms, and many people take their reward from the results they achieve rather than the money they earn. However [whispers], having spent too long in a job that was satisfying but very demanding and financially unrewarding, I now know that I am one of those that needs the money... There - I confessed!!
 
My step-dad earns about 80k and my mum around 90k... I would say we are rather rich.

We have 2 horses and our livery bill is usually £300 per month. We go on holiday 4/5 times a year.

Step-dad didn't go to college/uni or anything -he left school at 16 and worked in a shop. Was shop manager at 17 and then moved into retail and is now a buyer for Argos.

Wealth is relative unfortunately....to someone who earns £30k per year you may well appear rich...to Roman Abramovich you don't even register on the radar

Couldn't agree more!

I'm on £33k per year (I am 36) but thats what I would call an amazing high wage for what I do - I'm an Office Services Manager (!) It IS as dull as it sounds, and I too fell into it after school and never had the courage to change what I did.

I'm now stuck in the job cos I need it to pay the rent/fuel/food bills - and I can't even afford another horse, which adds insult to injury

I'm somewhere in the middle of the options - but am very happy. Do my own thing, book my own appointments, work for a lovely company and have enough to afford things.

OH has always earnt double what I do but takes a lot of sh*t and does on-calls.

Am comfortable and happy. That's most important thing for me.

If i earnt more money the Student Loan Co. would only take more and ruin my ambition of dying owing them money

earn a fair bit - am a Marketing Manager for a large transport company...OH earns about half what I do and we've recently taken on a whopping mortgage, plus saving to build stables etc plus livery means I'm actually probably more broke than I was when I was in UNi..

Mind you the reality is that your outgoings ALWAYS exceed your earnings...no matter how much you make!
 
my partner and I both work full time, both earn good salaries in professional careers - but we still spend a huge percentage of our money on our various horses, and live in a small house with land and stables - our choice as could have a big house, no horses - but then we would not be nearly as happy. All a matter of choices really - I don't particulary enjoy my job (with computers - which are not my favorite subject) but I do enjoy the freedom it gives me to have horses and be able to afford to compete and train, which I might not be able to do with a less well-paid but more interesting job.
 
GAH! I want to be rich.

The family i work for earn a combined salary of 300k a year! They've just bought a £1.2 million pound mansion which is going to cost them another £1 million to renovate as its completely derelict and falling down. (its a listed building)

Sometimes i envy them but when i see the stress im happy with my own job. However, both kids are SPOILT rotton!
