I have an 11.2hh welsh section A 9 yr old gelding and a 15.2hh welsh cross 25 yr old mare.
They both live out as we currently don't have any stables.

The gelding has three 20 litre buckets which he will quite happily drink in 24 hours, yet the mare has 2 and rarely drinks half of one of them in 24hrs.

The gelding is on a diet so i think half of it with him is that he drinks to fill himself up. The mare just doesn't seem fussed.
(Both are happy and healthy.)

So, just out of curiosity really, how much do yours drink and what would you consider 'normal'?

I was told that if a horse is on good grass they will drink less as there is moisture in grass. My mare who has a foal and been living in quite a bit can drink up to 4 x 42litre tubs a day.I think she spills quite a lot though.

Too much, two cans of Stella and they turn into little bleeders, sorry
