How much does a vetting cost

What do you call a "normal" vetting??

the standard 5 stage vetting is the one recommended by the RCVS - my vets charge approx £150 plus VAT and travel if out of their area

A normal vetting is a 5 stage.

It varies slightly depending on vet and how far they have to travel but you should budget up to about £300 all in. My last one was £250 but we transported the horse to the vets.

I think by 'normal' the OP means a 2 stage?

thats cheap... where abouts are you?

I had a 2 stage done when I bought my colt - he was only 6 months at the time so obviously we didn't want flexion tests done. Cost me just over £200, which I was a bit shocked about! A 5 stage for an older horse wouldn't have been much more!

In E Devon I paid £250 for a 5 stage. 2 stage isn't all that much cheaper if I remember rightly. Obviously x-rays and blood analysis on top of this.

I had a 5 stage last summer for about £230/240, but paid an extra £30/40 for my vet to travel a little way. Sod's law, it failed!!

I paid £240 for one today. Unfortunately although she passed it was on condition of x-rays being done and I felt that it wasn't a good idea sadly

Exactly what my last vetting said. I went 50/50 with the vendor in paying for the xrays, but my vet (whom I trust implicitly!) advised me not to buy. It's sad, but nowhere near as sad as having a young horse written off, so try and believe in what's meant to be. :)

I agree it's definitely better knowing now but I do feel sad about it. She was ideal for me. I hope I don't have to wait too long to find another suitable horse.
