I'm looking for a pony 20plus years old as an occasional happy hacker. I've got a young gelding at the moment, who has never had any vet bills (touch wood) so his insurance is relatively cheap. I'm happy to take on an oldie with some health issues but roughly how much would insurance be per month? A ballpark figure would be great please.

It depends on what you insure it for and what value. They won't cover much at 20 usually. I stopped insuring mine this year at 16 as the premiums went up 25% and the cover drastically reduced plus they said they would only pay 75% of any claim (on accidental injuries not colic or illness). It really wasn't worth it. Sorry I can't give you a figure as the quote was for my other horse and the trailer too..

There was another thread before with someone asking if what they was paying was too much for their retired horse, there were quite a few replies with figures on that. Sorry I can't remember the title but it was in the last few days. I can't help as mine is only 5

Mine is 23, fully retired - insurance currently £25 a month. When she reaches 25 it will drop to accident only ( no illness cover).
When she was ridden - last year was just hacked it was £50 ish I think.

I'm with petplan and they have always been brilliant.
