I was amazed at the report on Blair, but how much does it cost to do one.We did Hartbury a few years back and that was expensive but to travel ,stable ,compete and take time off work, it really must add up.Any guesses how much it costs to do just one?

easy too much. a 3 day sj show (Bicton) arriving day before and leaving morning after would put me back approx £3-400 once stabling (£60), membership (£40), entry fees (£100 ish at BN level but up to £130 if foxish), Bedding (£5 for straw but if shavings easily £20-30), hayledge (£20 fat b*stards!), human food (£30), diesel (£40), photos (£20??), alcohol (£20++++++++) and who knows what else is factored in....

I just tend to ignore how much it costs...

We did Weston last year which was nearly £500 just in entry and stabling. For an event in this country you are looking at 7-8 days off particularly if there is a distance to travel. There is obviously travel which can be more as they are often further and costs of food (horse and rider) bedding etc and the extras you need for a 3 day. I think probably cost us abut a £1000.

Funnily enough it cost us little more to go to Holland this year as entry fees and stabling are so much cheaper.

I was talking to a friend about this the other day, she's done plenty from CCI* to *** having been balloted from Badminton this year.

She reckons every 3DE shes ever done has come in around the £1000 mark,

Entries
Stables
Bedding
Extra bits you buy
Feeding your helpers each night
Extra lessons beforehand
Getting there/back
etc etc etc

She also said that boekelo last year came in less than Weston Park had the year before!!

yep, i'd agree it's about that, maybe a few hundred less if you're lucky.
unless you go abroad of course... when i did Bonn-Rodderberg, the organisers gave us loads of money towards diesel, ferry crossing, entry fee, stabling etc. it was quite perplexing, but very very welcome!

Have to admit most of the 3 says etc I want to do next year are abroad as more fun and generally cheaper. At Ede the entries included 3 meals for 2 (per horse) for the duration of the event.

People should consider abroad events it really is not that difficult.
