Currently I have the Ifor Williams 505, which is great when i have just my mare to take out. However we are currently thinking about buying another fella who is a big 16.3hh-17hh Irish Sport horse type and there is just no way we can travel safely with him in the trailer (I dont think!!)
Not actually tried him in it, this new lad is huge all over and I dont think its fair to be asking him to crouch!!

So how much does it cost to run your lorry with tax, diesel and insurance etc? 3.5t as thats what i'd be looking to get.

My mare and big fella would never be going out together should just point out. So not worrying about weight limits with 3.5t.

Have your tried him without the partition??
My horse loves it that way - she is a Full Bred Cleveland bay at 17hh - not small!!

Actually a trailer without partition is going to give you a lot more room than lots of the 3.5 tonne ones out there!!!! Esp if they are the ones where he hangs his head over the tack locker (i.e. front feet are boxed in not a breast bar where its open)

Good luck!

My Citroen 3.5t is a 2005 chassis, with a coachbuilt body, built for me in 2009. He costs £200 a year to insure fully comp, (sadly, I am way over 25 years of age:() breakdown cover is about £80 a year, tax £190 for 12 months. He does about 45-50mpg, maybe more on a run. servicing is £180 and MOt about £40, touch wood, have had no major work required but have had new brake pad on 2 brakes, which cost about £200.

I think you will really struggle to find a 3.5t that can legally carry both horses that size. Oh they will fit nice enough and a lot will tell you its legal but most small boxes would be over weight

Similar to above for my 3.5 tonner £350 for insurance and breakdown. Tax £180 for yr then cost of diesel, I filled up approx every 2 months in summer using it regularly on short journeys. Then cost of MOT and servicing which obviously varies depending on what needs doing.
