How much does your cat weigh?

Our cats love the cardboard scratchers. They do leave little bits of shredded cardboard around but getting the hoover out is preferable to ruining the carpet!

If Missy is getting auto-fed, you should probably check the amount that actually comes out of the feeder. Ours says 10g portions but it is frequently 50% more which obviously depends on what food you're feeding. Honestly if you cut the dreamies she will probably be absolutely fine. You might not even need the appetite suppression food if she is getting regular measured portions and fewer treats, I know it is expensive. You might also find she has more of an appetite for wet food if she isn't getting a packet of kitty-crack every day. Regular wet food is a good preventative for bladder and kidney issues as many cats don't want to drink enough water to make up for the lack of moisture in dry food. They are "naturally" getting most of their moisture from live prey so sometimes don't have a great instinct for drinking!

If you can't cut the dreamies entirely, you can get a lot of boredom breakers to make them work a bit. Our household favourite was just a simple little ball that you put the treats in and they have to bat it around to make them fall out. The noise is hideous but it keeps them busy and that way your mum still gets to give her something.
Mr C our old yard cat was over 6kg but he wasn't neutered and was an absolute tank. He was over 20 when he took his last wander. He would happily have had all the dreamies, 5 packets of Whiskas and an entire rabbit!
My dads cat was 7kg +, an absolute bruiser, but he was just a huge cat and not particularly fat. You had to lift him with your knees. There are dozens of that model still around that housing estate from just one extra large beast of a tomcat 15-20 years ago who really got around 😂 Him jumping up for a cuddle was like someone threw a bag of spuds at your gut.

I discovered one of mine prefers wood to scratch on when she started going at the guinea pigs' enclosure. I fixed that up and now have an old plank in place for her which she's slowly shredding.

Moley was 6kg in his prime winter weight when mostly sleeping by the radiator in the tack room. He’d always slim down during the summer hunting season. Now at 16yrs he’s very skinny. I think he was only 4kg last time weighed. He’s a big-boned cat.

My cats have usually been around the 5kg mark up to 6kg when overweight. I currently have one very overweight aka Fattimus Maximus (Merlin) and one underweight Skinnimus Minimus (Moley). It’s hard to deal with two with very different nutritional needs who also don’t get on.
