Interesting reading another post about how much people's horses cost them a month. Include competition fees too
smile.gif
I'll post mine once I've worked it all out!

Mine is cheaper than average I would guess!

Per calander month.
£62 livery.
£20 Insurance.
£10 Hay and Straw.
£5 Hard Feed.

In summer i take away hay/straw/feed as he is out 24.7

Every 10 weeks he has a trim at £20. He has fantastic feet and often farrier wont need to do anything bar a quick tidy up.
I also have dentist once a year which is about £50 and vacinations but I have forgotten the price of them!

So id say roughly £100-£150 a month max.

I reckon Bramble costs me about

Feed £15 (approx.)
Farrier £22.50 (every 8-10 weeks new set of shoes at £45)
Livery £60 (DIY out 24/7)
Wormer £6? (can't be bothered to work out properly!)
Rallies/Competitions £50 ( ! )
Transport £30

Total about £103.50 if I just hacked/schooled but with competitions it's an extra £80, making it £183.50... not too bad?

Not including vets stuff as he's a loan so owner pays for all that.

I have my own field, costs me
£25 per week hay - £100 PM
£20 hard feed - £40 PM
£50 black smith PM

so thats around £200 PM - sometimes more sometimes a bit less, thats my winter bill.
In the summer its around half that as dont feed hay

Mine lives out but i rent a field which has a stable in and running water.
The field cost £70 per month.
She doesn't have any hard feed
Every 8 weeks a trim as she is bare footed so that £20
Hay is off our field so costs to cut but I am not sure now much that is
Straw in the stable so around £9 per month as it is very rarely used
Carrots in the winter around £5
Insurance around £25

So roughly around £115 per month

Feed= £50
Insurance= £26
Shoeing= £11 a week (stud holes)

Oh my god this will be scary!

*2 x diy stables £260
* hay £60
*feed £30
*straw and woodchip £40
*insurance £60
*shoes £125 every 6 weeks so say £100 per month

Hmm, I know. Wish I hadn't written that down now!! Though it goes down to about £350 in the summer if that makes it any better??? Though maybe not after reading some of the other replies!

Livery £0 - can I count mortgage????
crazy.gif

Haylage/Feed/Bedding £83
Insurance £20
Shoes £18.30 - shod behind
Wormers £11
= £132.30

That's the dearest of the 4

Not competing at moment so that would increase, OH is 'trainer' at the moment!

humm
1diy livery - 100
hay & haylage, straw -80
feed (hardly anything) -5
shoes- (£8 a week) -32
shows at the moment -30
so thats £247!!! out of two that live in, the rest live out costing me 10 a week for field, 15 per round bale of hay and there all unshod

Hmm, well we have our own land so I pay £70/mth that goes into a 'pot' between 3 of us for 4 horses. The feed, shoeing, hay, straw etc comes out of that. Dunno re comps as varies throughout the year - probably averages £20-£40 a month plus we pay a monthly amount to cover the purchase of a wagon we got this year.

So, approximately £160/mth give or take a few quid here and there.

mine's out 24/7, diy. about £100 per month. front shoes only, hay dec - to april, all the usual. but not including any extras such as unexpected vet bills, (not had any yet!) and any new rugs or treats!

and this seems ridiculously cheap as i was spending the same per month to hack out at a riding school before i bought my own!

Per month
DIY livery inc hay £160
Bedding £25
Hard feed £12
Shoes £45
Vet flu, wormers teeth vacs and general (averaged over year) £35
Insurance £39
Hunting, and competitions (avg over a year) £120
Trailer maintenance and insurance £25

And that's without rugs and tack and all the other bits and pieces...or

Right then, here goes, per month, think I'm going to regret this !

Part Livery £265 (averaged over the year as pay a day rate per calender month)
Insurance £58
Shoes £30
Teeth £15 (has to be sedated)
Innoculations £6
Wormer £5
Suppliments:
Equine Gold Yeast Supplement £12.25
Garlic Granules £5
Mudgard £19
Carrots (4 sacks) £9
Apples (1 a day) £3.20
Polos £3
Pony's "toiletries!" £10
Speedi Beet £2.50
Spillers Hi Fibre Low calorie Nuts £4.00
Clipping (3 times a year) £6.25
Sedolin (for clipping) £1.58
Rug Cleaning £10
Back Lady and saddle checks £15
Lessons-cant afford them at mo(hopefully in the new year)£40

Total £519.78 per month... EEK ! Good thing I love her...

I have a good deal!!
I only pay for Meg - total is about £80 per month as she isn't shod in the winter/farrier visits about every 10 weeks (slow growing feet) - only eats pony nuts - free hay from the farm, stable/shelter is free as we built it!!
During the summer, is roughly the same give or take another £20 for shoes - often get removes!
Her insurance is covered by the farm too.
oh and add summer events - maybe another £40 per month if we are lucky that we go out - between May and August!

Catdragon - Just interested by your £15 per month on teeth. I just had my girl's teeth done by the vet. Saffron has to be sedated as she's a chestnut mare and loathes having her teeth done. For her alone it was £30.90 for the dental + £47.40 for the sedation. I tied her in with my others vet appointments but even if I included the vet's callout at £22.20 this still comes to a total of £100.50. Presumably you only get teeth done once a year (although I do it every other as they seem to be fine) so £100 / 12 months = £8 per month (or £6 per month without callout).

Anyway that's the first time I've worked it out, and it's more similar to your than I thought, £15 a month sounds quite a bit! I'll stop rambling now!

My usual costs are (some are averaged out over 12 months):
£74 livery
£35 insurance
£11 put by for wormer, annual vacination and teeth rasping
£30 shoes
£10 feed
£13 bedding
£20 hay
£110 lessons and competition fees
£15 put by for fly spray/rug washing etc

Total = £318
Which doesn't look that bad until you consider my oldie costs me £235 a month on top of the above.

Sadly my girlie has issues with her mouth, missing teeth that if left unattended the top teeth grow to fill the gap in the lower jaw..not nice. So she has at least 2 visits per year...by the vet. Call out fee alone is £35 a time and I cannot always "share" that, though the September one is shared as I combine that with her innocs and 2 other ponios are jabbed at same time
laugh.gif
hence why my dental fee is bigger. Had her teeth done this September, full sedation and electric rasp, £115, thank fully only has to have that done every 3rd year...
