hi there.

i was just wondering if you could give me some ideas for how much you think your horse costs you per week - for feed, hay and bedding alone...?????

Thanks!

just the absolute basics, and unless youre very lucky it will never be "basic" - £20 livery a week, £2 a bale of hay, same for straw - obviously you need alot more in winter. Insurance about £8-£10 a month. Shoes, divide I guess £60 - £70 between say 6 weeks. Vaccines and Wormers on top of that. bound to have forgotten something (wishin it didnt exist no doubt haha). new project / pony coming your way? youll always manage the costs if you want to dont worry.

i dont stable my 2 as their natives (well sec A shivers in rain!!!) they do wear rugs when bad weather, their rent is £8 each a week, in winter i get a big bale of haylege it lasts me 2 weeks which is £20 a bale, i buy a bag of chaff a week and 1 or 2 bags of cool mix a week (thats winter) im still feeding them a bit of hard feed as i like to know that they have a little something even though they have plenty of grass!!!

thats it i forgot the cost of feed haha but you can tell by my siggy that he certainly gets it, along with carrots, oranges, apples, blah blah blah PROMISE!!!

Currently she only costs me her shoes as I work to pay off her livery. Tis a good deal really

$68,000.00 each this year.

That's if I included the cost of the farm for them to live here rent free, out 24/7, not shod/not insured/cut own hay.

Basically, with all the usual stuff about $500 each for 6 horses.

in my sums i have included livery, all food and bedding
i havent included any other purchases like rugs, tack or other stuff like that

well monthly in summer my horse is about 220 = 55 a week

winter about 310 a month = 78 a week

this is without any unexpected costs like vets bills

diesel to get to my horse each week is about 10-15pounds or 50-60 a month

pricey is the short answer

About £200 a week. £50 rent, £10 walker, £35 lesson, £20 feed, £5 suppliments, £20 insurance, £20 shoes and then fuel getting to and from yard, entry fees, tack, rugs cleaning products, wormer, etc etc. Scarey hey!!

i could not bear to add it up, i'm sure my bank manager would love to tell me !
my gorgeous arab horse owes me nothing, he is a friend and companion and money cannot buy that.
soppy i know but he does mean the world to me.

£14 per week for stable, field, water and hay in winter (thats about as cheap as you'll get)
£1.40 for straw...........about 3 a week
£2.50 for hay.............two a week
Feed probably ads to about £5-10 a week
And anything up to £20 for wormers every 3-4 months
Insurance £28
My girly is pretty low maintence, only because she's not broken, and i do spoil her

If you got a broken horse the insurance will go up, and shoeing, etc.

For everything our two horses and two ponies run us an average of $125 per month( for all four). They are at home though so I am only counting in hay...feed....pro rated worming....pro rated farrier...and pro rated vaccines.

£10 a week grazing summer, £15 in winter with haylage; £50 per 8 weeks shoes, £17 a month insurance, £10 per 8 weeks wormer, about £10 a month hard feed...then extras like new rugs, tack etc. In fact I dont dare add it up. Not bad for a tb tho.

In summer...
£35 per week DIY livery, £50 every 5 weeks shoeing, £30 a month insurance, £120 a month lessons, £15 a month hard feed, £10 a month hay.....I'm not going to include visits to the tack shop and vets bills.....

That's about £376 a month OMG!!

(Oh and I only counted one horse, I have two....
