hey

my neddy is 16hh, 8yo, welshDxtb gelding he is a middle weight but more light weight than heavy, i condition scored him yesterday and i gave him a 4 out of 5 which i classed as fat. i also weight taped him and he was 532kg.

he definetly needs to lose some weight but not really sure how much ? what would be his ideal weight ?

how much do your horses weigh ?
 
My 14hh Anglo Arab weighs 385kg. Apparently her ideal weight is 400kg but she is at optimum weight now and I certainly wouldnt want her putting anymore on. Infact she could do will dropping to about 370kg!!

Have you condition scored your horse? Can you feel its ribs easily but not see them?

I had a horse weighed on a proper weighbridge earlier this year. 720kg. When I brought him home we tried three different weigh tapes and they worked out at 630kg. A week later my vet was on a visit and I told him about the discrepancy, so being an interested guy, he got two pieces of kit out of his car. A weight tape and another one with a formula where you measure the angles of the horse, both came out with 630kg again! BTW, he is not overweight.
 
I am a bit so and so about weight tapes as they can vary and prefer to go on how they look. Anyway according to the weight tape, Farra, 16.3 clydesdale is 640k and Stinky who is a 15.1 gypsy cob is 520. Both are not overweight but they are chunky looking horses due to the nature of their breeding.
 
We have a weigh bridge at home as my OH family are farmers and also have a green waste business and all the council lorries get weighed when they come in.

My british riding pony who is a companion for my mare is 11.2hh.

He weighed in at 220kg and I feel he is too fat hence being muzzled during the day.

My 4wk old foal wieghed in at 80kg.

His mum who is a 15hh crabbet bred arab weighed in at bang on 500kg, she isnt a fine arab and has a bit of bone about her, although I dont have a current side shot of her without a rug on you can just see her ribs when you look at her side on.

She is fed happy hoof and a bit of mix twice daily and has a good decent amount of good hay at night.

Bodey (the coloured in my sig) is 506kg on the weight tape and Badger (the Fjord in my sig) is 425kg.

My weight tape is pretty accurate because I had Bodey weighed at the vets on a weigh bridge and he was 540kg, and it said almost the same on the weight tape we have. He has now lost some weight, and I’m trying really hard to keep his weight down.
