My new instructor has come to a couple of events with me to see how I warm my horse up and how I react in the arena.

She charged me £10 to warm me up and read a test if required. She travelled to the event under her own transport and help me to get ready. She said that the money was to pay for her fuel.

What does your trainer charge?

My instructor came to my last two events of the season, she drives me there (i havent passed my HGV yet) helps me warm up for all three phases and helps with little stud up, wash down etc. In exchange i provide food and driink on the day, i also poo pick twice that week (9 horses worth) and rode out X2 horses twice a week (although i dont see that as work!) I think thats a good deal, but i havent had got much to base that against, i'd be interested to hear what other pay/ do in exchange too.

i dont have my own transport, so my instructor takes me, helps me, warms me up ect ect and in return i groom for her at shows, i load the lorry, help get the horses ready, help her tack up, do fences in the warm up ect. i also go to shows with her when i am not taking my horse. I think i have a very good deal, and im very grateful :D. the amount i learn going to shows is unbelievable, just from her being there, and i really enjoy grooming for her too, so it's great!

I have 2 instructors. My DR instructor is a family friend who generally likes to come for the day out etc so doesn't charge.y other instructor doesn't come to comps but if I asked him I'd probably pay about 20 I think. I think 10 pounds is a good deal though!

If mine's at the event she'll help me if she is free. I haven't managed to persuade her to come with me if she isn't going anyway, but I have to say I'd expect to pay a bit more than a tenner!! Put it this way - my clients wouldn't even get 30 mins of my time for £10 - and I'm cheap in my industry compared with the big companies I used to work for....

Gosh your trainers are all extremely generous :)

I would expect to pay the same as a lesson, if the competition was close by.

If for example it was to accompany me to an event, so essentially away all day, and to basically groom for me and warm me up I would expect to pay approx £50 plus food etc

I ride a youngster for my trainer at the moment so its in her interest for me to not ride like a plonker, so she doesn't charge me! She charges me for lessons at home but she usually brings her horses to the show as well so we split diesel costs and help each other where necessary. If she brings a groom for a stay away show that groom usually looks after my ride as well, so i am very lucky and think I get a very good deal.
