Is it just me who has a horse pinging out of his skin at the moment? Just ridden Pidge for an hour tonight as the school was too frozen this morning and he has carted me for the first half. He has so much energy I don't know where he is getting it from! Fortunately after doing a couple of jumps and lots of canter we did finish on some nice work, though my shoulders and arms are a bit sore from being pulled in the first half. Is it the weather that is making them like this? Sis horse Sunny was molting loads tonight and its only the beginning of Feb! What is everyone elses horse like at the moment?

too much

took H for a gentle hack to today but ended up bouncing back up the hill like some sort of rubber ball, and he isnt even fit at the moment, it will only get worse i fear

I seem to have the opposite problem - found a lovely stubble field to have a canter in yesterday - Georgie got half way up the hill and decided enough was enough..............whilst his mate J disappeared over the horizon.
Admittadley I have upped his work load quite a lot and we had been out for an hour when we came across the stubble field. But still! We then stood and watched while his fieldmate J had a good canter all round the field. Other than watching with interest Georige didnt move a muscle - it was clearly too much like hard work!

sounds exactly like Pidge, "I want to canter and canter and canter and canter......................" and there's me going "woah woah slow down you b******................."
Mind you our field has lots of grass on it considering the time of year as it had a 4 week break whilst we were away on hols. Am loathe to cut his feed too much down as don't want him to lose weight as its taken me 18 months to get him up to weight. He only gets one day off a week as it is and has plenty of variety in work, hacking, schooling, lunging, jumping, loose schooling so don't know what else to do?

Must be something in the air!

Went for a hack today with 2 friends into the village and my horse had a firework up his bum i think! Can be lazy but not today, wanted to trot trot trot, and on the way home he was doing some lovely dressage moves and when we decided to trot on he decided to take off at a canter, on the road may I ad, meaning much pulling up from me and sore arms, he is bloody strong!
Got back down to a semi normal walk, still pulling arms out of the sockets and got home eventually, about 50 metres from home he just toally chilled though as if ah yeah Im home to food!

Missy will has lots of energy because I can't ride her because I don't have a saddle for her at the moment so she get' lunged every other day.
It all depends what Storm is doing, if it's a fun hack where she get's to have lots of canters she has loads but if she's in the school and has to do some work she just switches off!

Out for a long hack on Saturday - up the hill like a slug, legs flailing everywhere (this is on an ex-racer!) soon as pointed in the region for home (poss 6 miles away tho) then a demon stepping on hot coals, jog, canter, jog... wish I had put my gloves on!! Duties at Uni today and hands blistered from pulling and checking!

Nope...I wish...mine can't be bothered and lopes along at his own pace...can't get him wizzed up at all! Perhaps need to give him a change of scenery, that usually does the trick!

haha yep same prob. went for a hack today, got into the first field, gave ever such a gentle kick and PING!!bouncing 4 feet in the air in a sideways canter!oh yeah and if i tried to pull on the reins he just threw his head up and lurched forwards. at first i was like 'wahay this is fun' but by the end it was just 'for gods sake you idiot!! '

Axey's seems to have loads of energy too, but not so he's being silly, just seems to have loads of stamina!
We went out for a really long hack the other day (3 1/2 hrs) and he got quite lively and wanted to canter across the xc field and when I put him out he went cantering off

Far too much! Not applied in the right direction, though. Took 10mins to get past a flock of canada geese honking in the fog yesterday, and we we just stand and nap? No we progressed straight to airs above the ground. Cantered 2 miles after that so looks a bit knackered today!

my 20 year old always has too much, he's never tired and the more you do, the more lively he gets. My friend came out on a 2 hour hack yesterday and hers is just as bad, he jogged the whole way and mine leapt about most of the time. Our bodies are feeling it today ...

Yes far too much!! cantering and bucking like a loon on the lunge, jogging out hacking, whizing round and bucking with excitement in the school! but shes like that nearly all the time anyway!!

Lol, I saw one of her bucks yesterday as I returned from trying to walk off William's sweat from our hack 2 hours earlier, only to be dragged and stepped on as he was prancing round neighing to everyone! We must go out for a hack together soon on the 2 mad orange ones...

I took mine galloping on Friday and she was going out of her mind with excitement. She was wild

We had one gallop which was about 1mile uphill and she was almost trotting by the top... so I pulled up to wait for my friend on her smaller horse and 10secs later, when he caught up my pony was leaping about again ready to gallop some more. Even the guy who was taking us out (on his extremely fit hunter) was amazed how little my horse was sweating and how quickly she recovered.

They are all too bloody fit at the moment that is the problem because they are in all the time and worked everyday.
