How much excersise to do with a pony

Hi, Im just bringing my 12 year old driving Shetland pony back into work. He lives out 24/7 and is currently very round. Just wondering how many days a week and for how long I could excersise him for? Eventually I'd like to do a 6 mile drive to a local tea rooms ? Thanks

Start with walking, every day, build up to a couple of miles, add in trot, short spells at first/ Six miles is not that far and you should be doing it within a few weeks.
