just out of total interest what sort of exercise do you give your small/toy dogs.

How often?
Where abouts? (field, park, streets)
How long for?
On/off lead?

Thanks :)

Daisy is a Bichon. Typically she's out for an hour and a half or so in the morning and an hour or so in the evening. The morning walk may be longer dependent on where we go.

Mostly beach and coastal path based walks, and off lead.

We also start agility at the end of this months. She's 14 months old.

She also enjoys a spot of gardening :D

Kevin and Perry (Chihuahuas) are very choosey about the weather:) During the winter we have done once a day, for about 30 minutes tops, normally ending with me carrying Kevin if it gets too wet or windy. Perry is a bit tougher. They do however, have frequent access to the garden, where they will charge around like loonies if the mood takes them. The main reason I take them out is more for socialization rather than exercise. I'm aiming for more once the weather improves.

Oh and to add Kevin is 8 mths and Perry is 10 mths. They stay on the lead at the moment. Often around the prom. by the beach.

My Yorkshire Terrier has always had lots of exercise, at least 3 good walks a day. She's a standard Yorkie not a miniature.

And from the ages of 7 - 12 she used to come out hacking with me and my horse. Slow hacks not mental ones! We'd be out for about an hour with a few trots and the odd canter or two (not long stretches though). She was amazing, always keeping a safe distance behind and never, ever running off.

Sadly she is too frail now and her eyesight is going so I leave her behind, but I really do miss her coming with me.

Not the usual type of dog you see out hacking, but she loved it. She's had a heart murmur since she was a puppy and I put the fact down that she was always so fit that she never had to go on medication for it.

And they do say that Yorkies only need a scamper round the sofa!

My two JRT crosses get about an hour a day off-lead in fields and then loads of play in the house. Also take them for a couple of walks a week on-lead on pavements for their claws.

Mine is currently recovering from the chiro- after she was attacked by another dog we have had some problems with a slipping patella but touch wood, that seems to be massively improving, so currently my pap is getting about 15-20 minutes a day, it will get built up gradually. She is happy with a 45 minute walk a day and lots of play indoors- she is a busy little thing but its more important to tire her brain out than her body.
