....a 12 year old gsd x collie with no health problems other than getting a little stiff!

Its quite likely that boyfriend will be moving in over the next month or so and bringing his girl with him. Archie currently gets 45 to 60 mins a day (more at weekends) and i was just interested on views really.

Its likely they'd get a quick walk morning and evening then a longer walk at lunchtime.....just don't want to finish the old girl off!

Might be worth a little investigation to see why she's getting a bit stiff, would be hard to recommend exercise levels without knowing the condition. E.g. is she better off keeping active or is it going to do more damage.
I've heard many people say that the best way to keep a dog young is to not treat it as elderly - if it's still active and healthy, continue to keep it active, but obviously if there is a medical condition that could be worsened by exercise it's worth knowing about it.

Sweep is 14 now and he does one short walk a day - approx 2 miles - and will happily do a 'big' walk at weekends (6-8 miles) and as other HHOers will tell you keeps up well :) He has no stiffness he is just a bit slower at the start but he soons picks up speed:D He wears a Bioflow magnetic collar all the time which I am sure helps:)

My parents collie x is 15 and does 3 short to medium walks a day, prob 40mins max. He is quite slow, but does get giddy now and then. He is stiff, but also wears a bio flow that he's had for 4 years, he got loads better when we got him that :)
