I have started making up my 5 month old foals feed seperatly rather than letting her eat her mums, I am feeding her chaff and baileys stud balancer, I am giving her the reccommend amount on the stud balancer bag but i am struggling to get her to eat it all. She is still with her mum and is keeping good condition, should i be worried or just let her eat as much as she wants?

The recommended amount is quite a lot as I recall! I don't feed my foals at all while they're on the mare (Irish Draughts are just TOO piggy!) and I don't feed the mares either in late lactation (just haylage and Sure Limb) - so I would suggest you don't worry at all. The mare is obviously still milking well and the foal doesn't NEED a lot of extra.

my highland is 6 months and has only just started eating his hard feed, at that he only has a handful for breakfast and tea.

The 5 months old here; one already weaned has 5lbs of Grow'n'win per day. The one still on mother gets 2lbs per day.

very little!! and good forage.

we let them feed with their mother to start with then when weened we give them about a good handful a day and then increased to 2.

Apologies; that should have been 2.5lbs for the weaned one and 2lbs for the one still on the mother. Sorry.

Mine doesnt get feed as such (just 5 months). Mum's food is put into 2 bowls and baby eats until mum finishes one dish and starts on the other. They have ad lib haylage too.

He's growing like a weed - 2 inches in the last month - so I guess he's doing ok.

Mine has her own bucket with a handful of mum's feed in it and mum only has non heating cubes. They have lots of good hay as we have very little grass. When Weasel is weaned she will have ad lib hay and a little stud balancer.
