It depends where in the country and by who - I've had 3 five stage vettings done in the last 10 months; one in Essex with my usual vet at about £225, one in Wales which was about £260 and the final one in Exeter which was about £305!!! (All included bloods & VAT) All failed so I am grand out of pocket (adding in my travelling / overnight stays on ones that I didnt like) and still no horse.
Having said this I will continue to spend the money as there are enough things that can go wrong with horses without them being crook to start with!
i'm sure my vets are about £150 for a 5-stage vetting. although price could have gone up. i had a 2-stage vetting done on my 2yr old summer of last year (2009) and it came to about £96-98
I just had a horse vetting 5*. It cost me £350 - I did however have one of the partner vets and also they had to travel 40 miles. Rather expensive though! I had one fail a few months ago at the same cost...ouch!
we had agreed to buy a horse in blackpool and 5 stage vetting was about 230 inc travel, however horse didnt even pass two stage vetting (went lame day before and uncovered a long term problem) so vets charged us for two
for Java, it was £194 including Mileage from Penrith to Kendal which we thought was very good! Without Travel was £164
Waste off money if you ask me, bloods maybe but that's it. Iv never had a horse vetted and never have a problem. I use my own judgement. I do a bit off buying/selling and all the horses have passed a 5 * vetting when they have been sold but I will not pay for a vetting myself
I used to work for a vets, got a 5 stage vetting for the cost of the bloods equipment and transportation of the horse to the site, so less than £100 in total. Very lucky methinks, dont think i'd bother again unless i had a mega budget!
