Hi
Does anyone know roughly how much I should expect to pay for good dressage training? How much is too much? Or do you think there is no limit if you find a really good trainer! Would appreciate your thoughts as I don't want to be taken advantage of!!

do you mean to be having lessons on your own horse? and/or lessons on a dressage trainers advanced/schoolmaster horse?

own horse i would say max £50 per hour (i pay £35 and am very satisfied with trainer).

Their horse expect to pay more?( i don't but i know most do) so say £60 maybe.

On your own horse the sky is the limit as to how much you can pay!! Ive trained with Emile Faurie and Andrew Gould - Emile was £65 for 45mins and Andrew was £45 for 45mins. Roland Tong does clinics at my yard and hes £65 for 45mins.

Most I've paid was £70 (I think, was something around there!) for Jennie Loriston Clarke, but worth every penny! :) Obviously if you are going to someone with a medal you are going to be paying more!

Tempi, not sure I'd pay that much for Roland, same price as Emile and he's got a Euro medal! R hasn't ridden GP.......

Although of course medals don't necessarily make good trainers! ;)

For me I am happy to pay whatever (as long as i can afford it without going bankrupt!) as long as the training is worth it, i train with erik theilgaard and anna r-d and both worth every single penny and more! Also you may find that some trainers' prices vary depending on where their clinics are held as they have to account for the school hire and travel etc x

I've paid 70 Euros for a monthly clinic with Elke Funk Hess it was well worth it because she gave you a very structured plan of excercises for the following month, so I felt I was paying for a training plan rather than just 40mins. That was before I had my son now I pay a girl at the yard a tenner an hour to be my eyes on the ground, shes good and works within mine and Lens capabilities.

Don't think you need to pay a fortune to a 'name' to get the most out of your horse of course its great to have someone very experienced give you advice but not all great riders make great trainers.

Thanks everyone! I thought I was probably looking around the £50 - £60 mark, so good to know I wasn't too far off! Just as long as prices don't keep creeping up I shouldn't have to re-mortgage quite yet!!!
