Yep i can see where you are coming from as that was the problem my friend had with her pony. He was too much for a child and too small for an adult.
His height is also a disadvantage as he is too big for juniors but probably a bit too small for seniors.
I still disagree that he wouldn't make a good competition horse though, ok he may never make it to Horse of the Year show but he could easily affiliate or quailify for trailblazers. Plus some affiliated shows are smaller than unaffiliated opens and he has already proved himself at unaffiliated level. You see horses still going round this level into their 20's and ponies and smaller horses tend to go on for longer.
I knew a 14.2 that was still jumping 3'6 courses at the age of 32yo!!!!
I would advertise him at the personally and expect to drop slightly
ok well rambo was nearer the price i put him on horsemart for a year or so ago!! but offer me 50k and i'd still say no. (peter thinks about that one..) no i defo wouldnt sell!
Oh its not me personally who thinks he wouldn't be a good competition horse. I don't buy the whole "too old" thing.
But I know when I sold Paris, so many people said she was "too old" to go any further competition wise than she had already, and she was 12. [had done BN and Disc., and I said she could do Newcomers easily as she had the scope, and PN/Novice eventing with a little work.]
You could well be right as i have never had to sell a horse at this age but it just seems silly to me!!! My friend got just under that for her 17yo but he did have £500 BSJA winnings.
Even if he wasn't affiliated he could still qualify for loads of things like trailblazers and wales & west etc. People are so agest LOL
As much as he is a very beautiful horse...I am afraid I wouldn't even offer him space on my livery yard, sorry. I wouldn't take a rig for free - but some people don't mind it.
theres a pony on our yard still competing un affiliated and he is 28/29. and looks as fit as the rest, 2 years a go he was competing ODE and winning. i dont believe this age thing, doesnt wash, if the horse does the job and is fit and healthy then i dont see that as a problem. maybe im unique, i dont see flints bucks or rears as a complete turn off either and nor would i in any other horse

how about with 6ft panel fencing and his own special stable in the naughty corner! lol
You know when I think about it I think you may be a little mad!!!!
Your horse is very handsome, jumps well and you enjoy him, so he has no price as he is beyond money to you.
I get that as I feel the same about my lad. He hit lots of branches when he fell from the ugly tree (but he is the best looking horse to me), he's eight and has done....nothing (yet) and I would never ever be brave enough to ask H&H what they think he is worth...that would make me cry to much...
i dont get too offended over what people say about my horse. the pricing is one thing but its when people are quite rude...i was asked once at weston lawns why i hadnt bought the grey spastic. when he's good he's bloody fantastic and when he's bad its awful, people have diff ideas of the ideal horse, looks, performance etc

Well maybe if you paid to have the fence built and your livery bill was 4 times everyone else's......yeah alright you can bring him here, LOL!!

and pay for his plane there! i think i'll stay where i am but thanks for the offer Tia!!
As long as you are honest when selling him, I would think you are looking at £2500 max. So ok, he's not a novice ride but what is in all honesty! We bought a 12'2 NF froma dealer, quiet as a lamb, until we brought him home and started to feed him - different story - the little beast!! But 14 years later, he's a good boy now. Your chap is pretty and looks as though butter wouldn't melt! And I bet he's great fun to ride. Ignore the age factor, thats not important with a pony - they go on for ever more - we have one who is 36 plus and still carting children around the block. He is also a good height for a child coming out of ponies - and is no plod - something to contend with. A Pony Club home will sort his rearing and bucking out - but why does he do it - excitment or back problem?? He'll be working all the time so will have his mind occupied! Contact the DC to see if she knows anyone who is looking. You said he's done some affiliated jumping? Would be worth you registering him if he's lapsed and getting some money on his ticket - if he's as good as you say, then you'll have some fun and you'll be exposing him to the market as well. We're out of ponies now but I'll tell you something, I would have killed for a little grey - they always do well in WH and hunter type showing. Do him some justice and advertise him in a national to get him good coverage. Good luck!
You are more or less in the same boat as me. Only get this. My chestnut mare is 15.2hh, she is 14year old, she has copd, had a stress fracture of her cannon bone about 3year ago, weaves, boxwalks, rears occasionally. Gets separation anxiety from other horses. Is very sharp to jump, gallops at everything with her head in the air.
Can jump up to 1.20 with another rider but i dont have the nerve so have still not done BSJA yet. Has done some unaffiliated SJ and XC.Is nicely schooled and wont hack out alone either.
Put a price on that. HA HA. Would say to everyone else she is worth nowt bless her. That is why she will stay with me for life now.
I know her inside out, and know how to keep her happy, she is worth a fortune to me and would never sell. Just as well though cos I certainly would have trouble trying to I think HA HA.
His age wouldn't put me off, the rearing and not hacking out alone would I'm afraid. I do think you often have to put up with quirks to have a good competition horse. His height would also be against him, as you say he's a bit in between. I would suggest about £2,000 to the right person but would imagine he would be difficult to right an advert for! I gather you aren't thinking of selling him and to you he is priceless which is the main thing.
My TB was very reliable but did rear and come back over me once, which just goes to show it doesnt matter what horse it is they can rear at some point, he hasnt done it since. Does Flint ever come back on top of you, ie does he do threatening rears (which could be fun) or uncontrollable flip over rears which you cant predict?
I like something with abit of spirit as long as they can jump and are fun. I have a very speedy crazy pony atm although im 20, she doesnt buck or rear but simply wants to go all the bloomin time which can be annoying but i love it. She wont hack in busy traffic as it scares the crap out of her and shes 14. But I know, because of her jump and her quietness with children etc her speed will be loved by a pony club child who likes abit of a gallop every now and then but wont let her away with things.
He is a lovely horse and you obviously get on. I personaly wouldn't want him as he's too small and quirky (or I too big and old) but I think he's worth meat money so about £250.
Thats bloody awful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You really cant be a horse lover if you see healthy horses going for meat. Especially when theres several people here alone saying they'd take him. Hmm never mind the horse you must defiantely be getting old..
